    Well friend
    Where were you?
Actually source here means the origin part
like nitrogen in the atmosphere (as it is part of Gaseous Cycle)
Sulphur on the contrary has reservoir in the soil and sediments.
Well the link is showing error.

Volcanoes toh deep ocean me bhi hote hain..That’s how I guessed ocean surface as a source.

Waise answer now is all of the above are sources. Going by the discussions here, perhaps the correct answer was different earlier.

Here the Logic behind the question
    a) e.g Fish ingest water, breaks the molecule and utilised the oxygen
    b) Human, utilised pure oxygen with other gases

Overall i don’t find the question to be accurate since respiration involved release of co2 and i dont think it involve in oxygen cycle,i think the answer is wrong,i choose the option d) 2 $ 3

frend plz correct my question,in Q. Oxygen enters the aquatic ecosystem through:Respiration of marine animalsIS ALSO THE ANSWER,HERE IN QTN ASKED OXYGEN ENTERS BUT NOT IN TERMS OF QUANTITY,FO example take human beings, though we take o2 n give out CO2, it is also true we release o2 also but less in quantity,it does not mean we r not releasing oxygen,so frnds plz correct if am wrong

Some aquatic animals take oxygen from atmosphere too. Maybe that will be the logic behind it. Anyone here, please clarify.

  21. let it be sir….I still believe though that the answers are marked incorrect- for both photsynthesis and respiration cannot be the source of a single gas – as the options mention…thank you for entertaining the doubt…

  22. not an issue…

  23. CSE2017 aspirant (ABG) Avatar
    CSE2017 aspirant (ABG)

Sulphur will not be present in molecular form in atmosphere, it will always be present in it’s oxide. Hence, I think word to look for was atmospheric source and not SULPHUR.
You can google the sources of atmospheric sulphur and will get the results.

  24. when they take oxygen dissolved in the water -its already in the ecosystem _for the ocean water is part of the ecosystem- what they then contribute by respiration is not oxygen but CO2 ??

  25. CSE2017 aspirant (ABG) Avatar
    CSE2017 aspirant (ABG)

Oxygen enters the aquatic ecosystem through:-
They contribute by intaking oxygen – they form the part of aquatic ecosystem and hence by intaking atmospheric or dissolved oxygen in ocean, they help in allowing oxygen to enter the aquatic ecosystem.

Again it’s the word game 🙂
Every question today has some words twisting.
You should not think that you need to find sources of oxygen. You need to explore deeper into the meaning of the question.

Similar was the problem in atmospheric sources of sulphur, while most of us were fool to think about sources of atmospheric sulphur, it’s our preconceived idea which creates problem.

(Note : I also made the same mistake as you made 🙂 )

  26. The WORD was SULPHUR- for what goes to atmosphere after all the options mentioned is not SULPHUR but its OXIDES ….

  27. at the cost of sounding dumb I ask….
how does respiration by aquatic animals contribute to aquatic oxygen ?

  28. CSE2017 aspirant (ABG) Avatar
    CSE2017 aspirant (ABG)

What can be the atmospheric source then ?
Can atmospheric source be lightening causing production of SOx due to interaction of atmospheric sulphur and oxygen at high temperature ??

  38. Exactly. DMS emission occurs by phytoplankton.

DMS originates primarily from DMSP, a major secondary metabolite in some marine algae.[1] DMS is the most abundant biological sulfur compound emitted to the atmosphere.

I think – question wants to ask which of them are sources of Sulphur instead of incorrect choices.

One can guess this answer from sulphur cycle, though I was not able to guess dimethyl sulfide as a source of sulphur from ocean surface. But as you can look in the diagram, all 4 are the sources of atmospheric sulphur.

Burning fossil fuels like coal – we all know coal contains sulphur and hence it is a source of sulphur dioxide.

2/6 🙁 can anyone explain hw ocean surface s atmospheric souce of sulphur???

  54. Found the answer on wikkipedia ::

There is no significant amount of sulfur held in the atmosphere with all of it coming from either sea spray or windblown sulfur rich dust,[4] neither of which is long lived in the atmosphere. In recent times the large annual input of sulfur from the burning of coal and other fossil fuels adds a substantial amount SO2 which acts as an air pollutant. In the geologic past, igneous intrusions into coal measures have caused large scale burning of these measures, and consequential release of sulfur to the atmosphere. This has led to substantial disruption to the climate system, and is one of the proposed causes of the great dying.
