The Biodiversity Management Committees (BMCs) are statutory bodies that are formed by the local bodies under Biological Diversity Act 2002. The BMC consists of a Chairperson and six persons nominated by local bodies; including 1/3rd women and 18% SC/ST. Main functions of BMCs are is to prepare People’s Biodiversity Register in consultation with the local people. Conservation and sustainable utilization of biological resources. Advice on any matter referred to it by the State Biodiversity Board or Authority for granting approval. Maintain a Register giving information about the details of access to biological resources and related traditional knowledge among others.

Decks have been cleared to notify the Malai Mahadeshwara Wildlife Sanctuary as a tiger reserve. The approval from the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) is expected any time now. A presentation of the final proposal was made before the NTCA early this month and the final notification will be made by the State government once the NTCA gives its formal approval. Once notified, Chamarajanagar district will have the rare distinction in the country of harbouring three tiger reserves. It already has Bandipur and Biligiri Ranganatha Temple (BRT) Tiger Reserve within its territorial limits. Also, with this, Karnataka will have six tiger reserves, the others being Nagarahole, Bhadra, and Anshi-Dandeli, apart from Bandipur and BRT Tiger Reserves.

AICTE has been organizing Vishwakarma Awards since the year 2017. The awards have been instituted for promoting innovative spirit and scientific temperament for holistic development of society through the stakeholders of its approved institutes. The Awards are aimed at motivating young individuals, inspiring leaders and institutions/ organizations to raise their performance in their specific domains leading to significant contribution towards the growth and development of the Nation as a whole. The competition/ call for entries for the third edition of Vishwakarma Award for the year 2019 were earlier announced by HRD Minister on 11 Sep 2019 and was based on the theme of “How to enhance the income of Village”. Indian Society of Technical Education (ISTE) and Atal Innovation Mission of NITI Ayog also agreed to collaborate with AICTE for the Vishwakarma Awards 2019.

Applications were called in 02 categories:

Category-I : Chhatra Vishwakarma Awards (CVA) for Outstanding Innovative Team (for Students & Mentor).

Category-II : Utkrisht Sansthan Vishwakarma Award (USVA) for exemplary Institutional intervention.

But it has warned about the uncertainty around the spread of the coronavirus, rising debt levels and climate change.

Himachal Grihini Suvidha Yojana launched in 2018, it aimed to cover households left out under Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana. Except families having a pensioner, income taxpayer or any member employed with the government, board, corporation etc, all households of the state without an LPG connection were eligible.
