Dear Friends,

As the rainy seasons + exam time appears, this is an advisory from ForumIAS Academy to all its students.

As the monsoons come, and we have rains and water logging in most parts of the country, there are three kinds of health challenges we need to protect ourselves from

  1. Dengue ( very common in Delhi )
  2. Typhoid
  3. Monsoon Fever / Viral Fever ( Non-Covid )

Here is an advisory to all our students.

Dengue is spread through virus transmission spread to people through the bite of an infected Aedes species mosquito. The most common symptom of dengue is fever with any of the following: nausea, vomiting, rash, aches, and pains (eye pain, typically behind the eyes, muscles, joints, or bone pain).

Here are some of the Dos and Don’ts of Dengue:

  • Please wear full sleeves clothes, and shoes as far as possible during the day, in the library or even in your home. No part of the body should be uncovered.
  • Invest in a good mosquito repellent liquid such as AllOut or Good Knight and keep it on during the day. Dengue Mosquitoes are active during the day. If you are in Delhi, and in student areas, be extra cautious. Delhi is known to have Dengue outbreaks.
  • Make sure that you keep your kitchen and washroom area clean without any accumulation of water in mugs, bucket, utensils, glasses, cups etc. They are active sites for mosquitoes.
  • Visit you roof, or speak to your landlord and ensure that any overhead container/ tanks are properly covered and cleaned.
  • Don’t leave water in the desert cooler when not in use.
  • If you find accumulated water you cannot get rid of, put some kerosene oil / petrol so, which forms a layer and prevents mosquitoes from breeding. ( Prelims question )Add two tablespoons of Petrol/kerosene oil in desert coolers, containers, uncovered/improperly covered tanks etc. if they can’t be dried weekly. You can expect a prelims question on this as to how they work.
  • The bamboo plant you have in water filled vase, must be properly taken care of by ensuring it is not a breeding ground for mosquitoes.
  • Use mesh doors/windows, mosquito coils, vapour mats etc. to keep mosquitoes away.
  • During the season, avoid eating cut fruits from outside, or chaat and other things that may have the risk of contamination. This may create the problem of typhoid.
