Agni-5 successfully Test-fired

News:

  1. Recently, Agni-V was successfully test-fired off the Odisha coast

Important Facts:

2. The missile was launched from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Dr Abdul Kalam Island (Wheeler Island) in the Bay of Bengal

3. This was the sixth trial of the state-of-the-art Agni-5; second in its pre-induction configuration

4. Agni-V is capable of carrying nuclear warheads weighing 1.5 tonnes to a distance over 5000km

5. It is the longest missile in India’s arsenal which is capable of reaching most parts of China

6. Indigenously developed new technologies tested in Agni-V trial:

  • Ring Laser Gyro based Inertial Navigation System (RINS)
  • Micro Navigation System (MINs)- improves the accuracy of the missile
