- The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced that photo voter slips will no longer be accepted as ‘stand-alone identification document’ for voting at polling stations.It justified its decision on the ground that photo voter slip design does not have any security features and can be misused.
- ECI has listed 11 documents for identification that an eligible voter can produce at the polling station which are:(a) Passport (b)Driving licence (c)Service Identity Cards with photograph issued to employees by Central/State Govt./PSUs/Public Limited Companies (d)Passbooks with photograph issued by Bank/Post Office (e)PAN card (f)Smart card issued by RGI under NPR (g) MNREGA job card (h)Health insurance smart card issued under the scheme of Ministry of Labour (I)Pension document with photograph (j) Official identity cards issued to MPs/MLAs/MLCs and (k)Aadhaar card.
- The Election Commission of India is an autonomous constitutional authority responsible for administering election processes in India. The body administers elections to the Lok Sabha and state Legislative Assemblies in India, and the offices of the President and Vice President in the country.The Election Commission operates under the authority of Constitution as per Article 324,and subsequently enacted Representation of the People Act.
