  1. Government introduced Cinematograph (Amendment) Bill 2019 in Rajya Sabha.
  2. The bill seeks to amend provisions of Cinematograph Act, 1952 in order to tackle film piracy by including penal provisions for unauthorized camcording and duplication of films.
  3. The draft amendment has proposed a) inclusion of penalties for film piracy which includes imprisonment of three years or fine up to Rs 10 lakh or both b) insertion of new Section 6AA for the prohibition of unauthorised recording c) Amendment in Section 7 to introduce Penal Provisions for violating provisions of section 6AA.
  4. The proposed amendments would increase industry revenues, boost job creation, and will give relief against piracy and infringing content online.
