News: Governments are trying to adopt high-performance buildings through initiatives like National Action Plan on Climate Change, The Energy Conservation Building Code (ECBC).

1. High Performance Building (HPBs): They are structures that are designed to reduce greenhouse-gas emissions, minimise energy and water use, and cut operational costs using climate adaptive designs.

2. Some of the benefits of HPBs include: A) Environmental Sustainability B) Financial Savings C) Energy Efficiency D) Longer Building Lifespan

3. National Action Plan on Climate Change: It was launched in 2008 to outline a national strategy that aims to enable a country to adapt to climate change and enhance the ecological sustainability of India’s development path

4. There are 8 National Missions that form the core of the National Action Plan. Some of these missions include National Solar Mission, National Mission for a Green India, National Mission for Enhanced Energy Efficiency.

5. Energy Conservation Building Code (ECBC): The code aims to establish minimum requirements for energy efficient design and construction of buildings.

6. The code has been developed by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE).
