News: India and China have made significant headway in resolution of the military standoff at the Line of Actual Control (LAC). Both sides have agreed to restore patrolling rights to each in the Depsang Plains and Demchok region.

1. Line of Actual Control is a demarcation line that separates India-controlled territory from Chinese-controlled territory.

2. LAC is divided into 3 sectors: A) The Eastern Sector (Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim), B) The Middle Sector (Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh) C) The Western Sector (Ladakh)

3. In eastern Ladakh region, Depsang plains and Demchok region had emerged as major friction points.

4. Demchok is a disputed area where India and China have varying claims in the Charding La area. While, at Depsang, Chinese troops have been blocking Indian patrols from going beyond the Y-junction.

5. Now, India and China have decided to restore patrolling rights in Depsang Plains and Demchok region.

6. Other friction points in the eastern Ladakh include the Galwan Valley, North and South banks of Pangong Tso, Gogra-Hot Springs area.
