News: The findings of the 10th Wild Ass Population Estimation (WAPE), 2024 states that the population of Indian Wild Ass has gone up by 26.14% in the last four years.

1. Indian Wild Ass, also known as Khur, is a subspecies of Asian Wild Ass.

2. Its population is now confined to specific region in Gujarat (Little and Great Rann of Kutch). It could earlier be seen in North-West India, Pakistan and even Central Asia.

3. They are known for their strength and can run at a speed of 50 to 70 Km. per hour in the desert.

3. It is protected under Schedule 1 of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.

4. Wild Ass Sanctuary has been set up in Little Rann of Kutch for their conservation.
