Which of the statements given above is/are correct?
Red Book
Red Book

[A] 1 only

[B] 2 only

[C] Both 1 and 2

[D] Neither 1 nor 2

Answer: C
Notes:

Exp) Option c is the correct answer

Statement 1 is correct. The Constitution does not contain any separate provisions for the administration of acquired territories. Thus, the constitutional provisions for the administration of union territories also apply to the acquired territories.

Statement 2 is correct. The relationship of union territories with the Union government is unitary in character. This is unlike states, which enjoy federal relationship with the central government. The UTs are under the direct control and administration of the Centre. Though, the Union Territories of Puducherry, Delhi and Jammu and Kashmir are provided with a legislative Assembly, the establishment of such institutions in the union territories does not diminish the supreme control of the President and Parliament over them. The Parliament can make laws on any subject of the three lists (including the State List) for the union territories.
