Red Book

[A] 1 only

[B] 1 and 2 only

[C] 1 and 3 only

[D] None of the above

Answer: D
Notes:

Exp) Option d is the correct answer.

Statement 1 is incorrect. The impeachment charges against President can be initiated by either house of the Parliament. These charges should be signed by 1/4th members of the house (that framed the charges not both the houses) and a 14 days’ notice should be given to the President.

Statement 2 is incorrect. The President can be removed from office by impeachment process for the violation of the constitution. However, the constitution does not define the meaning of the phrase ‘violation of the constitution’.

Statement 3 is incorrect. The President holds office for a term of 5 years from the date on which he enters upon his office. However, he can resign from his office at any time by addressing the resignation letter to the Vice- President and not the Chief Justice of India.
