- In 1948, Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) was established with public contributions to assist displaced persons from Pakistan.
- At present, the resources of the PMNRF are utilized primarily to render immediate relief to families of those killed in natural calamities like floods, cyclones and earthquakes, etc. and to the victims of the major accidents and riots. The fund consists entirely of public contributions and does not get any budgetary support
- The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said that the unseasonal rainfall was caused by western disturbance. Western disturbance (WD) is an extra-tropical storm which originates in the Mediterranean region. It is a low pressure system that travels from the western to the eastern direction. It brings unseasonal winter rain to the north and north-western parts of the Indian subcontinent.
