Except for a minor proportion of organic matter, the <strong>entire Earth\u2019s crust is composed of minerals<\/strong>. Certain minerals consist of a <strong>single element<\/strong>, such as <strong>gold, silver, sulphur, and diamond (carbon)<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>A <strong>mineral resource<\/strong> refers to the <strong>concentration or occurrence of a mineral in the Earth\u2019s crust<\/strong> in such <strong>form, grade, quantity, and continuity<\/strong> that there are <strong>reasonable prospects for its economic extraction<\/strong> in the present or future. These deposits supply <strong>Chunar, Churk, and Dalla cement plants<\/strong>. Uttar Pradesh ranks <strong>second in India<\/strong> in terms of limestone reserves.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Coal: <\/strong>Coal occurs in <strong>Gondwana formations of Sonbhadra<\/strong>, particularly the <strong>Singrauli coalfield<\/strong>. The coal supports <strong>Obra Thermal Power Station and Singrauli Super Thermal Power Plant<\/strong>. UP ranks <strong>8th nationally<\/strong> in coal reserves.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Bauxite: <\/strong>Bauxite, the principal ore of aluminium, is found in <strong>Banda, Chandauli, and Lalitpur<\/strong>. Aluminium extraction is carried out at <strong>Hindalco\u2019s Renukut plant (Sonbhadra)<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Dolomite: <\/strong>High-grade dolomite from <strong>Kajrahat (Sonbhadra)<\/strong> and <strong>Banda<\/strong> is used in <strong>steelmaking, refractories, cement, and chemical industries<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Silica Sand (Glass Sand): <\/strong>UP ranks <strong>second in India<\/strong> in silica sand production. High-purity glass sand with <strong>98% SiO\u2082<\/strong> and very low iron content is obtained from <strong>Shankargarh (Prayagraj)<\/strong> and surrounding regions. Estimated reserves exceed <strong>100 million tonnes<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Rock Phosphate: <\/strong>Approximately <strong>6 million tonnes<\/strong> of rock phosphate (average grade 16%) have been identified in <strong>Lalitpur<\/strong>. Mining was undertaken by UPSMDC. Re-assessment is currently being conducted by <strong>MECL under NMET<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Andalusite: <\/strong>Found mainly in <strong>Mirzapur and Sonbhadra<\/strong>, andalusite is used in <strong>refractories, porcelain, and spark-plug manufacturing<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Pyrophyllite: <\/strong>Deposits in <strong>Jhansi, Lalitpur, Mahoba, and Hamirpur<\/strong> are used in <strong>ceramics, heat treatment, and pesticide industries<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>China Clay: <\/strong>China clay deposits in <strong>Sonbhadra and Banda<\/strong> support <strong>ceramic, paper, and paint industries<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Diamond: <\/strong>The <strong>Banda diamond field<\/strong> is one of India\u2019s most productive. <strong>NMDC<\/strong> has reported production of <strong>over 810,000 carats<\/strong>, with annual output of about <strong>71,000 carats<\/strong>. Informal mining also contributes significantly.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Gold: <\/strong>Gold traces occur in <strong>Sharda and Ramganga river sands<\/strong>, with promising deposits in <strong>Lalitpur and Sonbhadra<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Copper: <\/strong>The <strong>Sonrai belt of Lalitpur<\/strong> hosts copper veins in <strong>igneous and sedimentary rocks<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Uranium: <\/strong>Limited uranium reserves occur in <strong>Lalitpur<\/strong>, with grades ranging from <strong>0.01% to 0.09%<\/strong> over a 300-metre belt.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Gypsum: <\/strong>Found in <strong>Jhansi and Hamirpur<\/strong>, gypsum is used in <strong>cement, fertiliser, and chemical industries<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Asbestos:
