The conference was held in Cairo.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>During the conference, 179 countries adopted a forward-looking, <strong>20-year Programme of Action<\/strong> (extended in 2010) that continues to serve as a <strong>comprehensive guide to people-centred development progress<\/strong>. It was also called as <strong>Cairo Consensus<\/strong>.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The Cairo Consensus called for the <strong>promotion of reproductive rights, empowering women, universal education, maternal and infant health to untangle the knotty issue of poverty and high fertility<\/strong>.
