The concept of a <strong>shared legacy<\/strong> was endorsed.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UNESCO\u2019s Global Geoparks Network:<\/strong> In the late 1990s, UNESCO facilitated efforts to create a formal programme promoting a global network of geoheritage sites. These were intended to complement the <strong>World Heritage Convention and the UNESCO Man and the Biosphere programme<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Followingly, UNESCO provided guidelines for developing national geo-parks so that they become part of the <strong>Global Geoparks Network<\/strong>.
