These are monotypic species endemic to the southern Western Ghats and confined to higher elevations.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Conservation Status: <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>IUCN Red List:<\/strong> Both the flycatchers are listed as<strong> &#8220;Least concern&#8221;<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mt-5\">\n<\/div>\n<p><strong>Habitat:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>BOF prefers the leaf-litter, understorey of shola forests, especially among the stunted evergreen forest patches in the sky islands of Western Ghats.<\/li>\n<li>The NIF is also found above 600 m elevation but more frequently above 1200 m.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Characteristics:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Black-and-orange Flycatcher<\/strong>:\u00a0The male is distinctly black headed with black wings. The female has the black replaced by dark brown and has a light eye-ring.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Nilgiri Flycatcher<\/strong>: It is dark steely indigo blue with some violet-blue on the forehead and darker lores. The female is duller with dark brown on the upperparts and dark grey below.<\/p>\n<p>It was formerly referred to as the Nilgiri verditer flycatcher because of its similarity to the verditer flycatcher.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Note<\/strong>: Verditer is a winter migrant to the Nilgiris, which, however, has distinct dark lores and a lighter shade of blue.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Food Habits<\/strong>&#8211; In addition to typical \u201cflycatching,\u201d both flycatchers forage on the ground and in dense undergrowth.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Threats<\/strong>-The study has found that these two species could suffer a loss of 31% and 46% of their range respectively by 2050 due to <strong>climate change<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Moreover, about 75% of the currently suitable areas of both these species lie <strong>outside the protected area network<\/strong> in the Western Ghats.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>About Black-and-orange Flycatcher(Ficedula nigrorufa) and Nilgiri Flycatcher (Eumyias albicaudatus) \u00a0These are tiny, brightly-colored flycatcher bird.
