{"id":153486,"date":"2021-12-15T15:43:25","date_gmt":"2021-12-15T10:13:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?page_id=153486"},"modified":"2021-12-15T15:44:24","modified_gmt":"2021-12-15T10:14:24","slug":"river-ranching-programme","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/river-ranching-programme\/","title":{"rendered":"RIVER RANCHING PROGRAMME"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>River ranching programme<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Note<\/strong>&#8211; <strong>River ranching<\/strong> is a form of aquaculture in which a population of a fish species is held in captivity for the first stage of their lives, then released, and later harvested as adults.<\/p>\n<p><strong>About<\/strong>&#8211; It is introduced as special activity under PMMSY (Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana) scheme.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Department of Fisheries has designated National Fisheries Development Board <strong>(NFDB), Hyderabad as the Nodal Agency.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>This program is under <strong>Central Sector component of PMMSY<\/strong> for implementing River Ranching across the Country.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Objectives<br \/>\n<\/strong>The key objectives of the component are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>To sustain and conserve the biodiversity in the river.<\/li>\n<li>Facilitate regular stocking of fingerlings of cultivable carps to enhance productivity.<\/li>\n<li>Increase fish production.<\/li>\n<li>Enhance income and livelihood opportunities to communities\u2019 dependent on these<br \/>\nresources.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Implementation period:<\/strong><br \/>\nThe scheme is implemented for a period of 2 years from FY 2020 -2021 to FY 2021-2022.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Project area:<\/strong><br \/>\nThe Phase-I of programme (2020-21) is implemented in <strong>3 river basins<\/strong> of the country namely (a)Ganges and its tributaries (b)Brahmaputra &amp; Barak river tributaries (c) Mahanadi &amp; other rivers.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It covers <strong>8 States<\/strong> namely UP, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Uttarakhand, Odisha, Assam, and Tripura.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>River ranching programme Note&#8211; River ranching is a form of aquaculture in which a population of a fish species is held in captivity for the first stage of their lives, then released, and later harvested as adults.
