{"id":153714,"date":"2021-12-16T12:33:54","date_gmt":"2021-12-16T07:03:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?page_id=153714"},"modified":"2021-12-16T12:33:54","modified_gmt":"2021-12-16T07:03:54","slug":"mgnrega","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/mgnrega\/","title":{"rendered":"MGNREGA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>News:<\/strong> According to Government data, over 11 crore people worked under the <a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/mgnrega-issues-and-significance-explained-pointwise\/\">Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme<\/a> (MGNREGS) during the financial year 2020-21.<\/p>\n<p><strong>About MGNREGS:<\/strong> It is one of the world&#8217;s largest employment guarantee programs.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Launched in: <\/strong>The scheme was initially launched in the 200 most backward rural districts of the country in 2006-07. It was later extended to an additional 130 districts during 2007-08 and to the entire country from 2008-09 onward.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Beneficiary: <\/strong>Under the scheme, every rural household whose adult member volunteers to do unskilled manual work, is entitled to get at least 100 days of wage employment in a financial year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Implementation:<\/strong> Ministry of Rural Development (MRD), Government of India in association with state governments monitors the implementation of the scheme.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Key Features of the scheme: <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It is a<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"> Demand-driven scheme<\/span>. Worker to be hired when he demands and not when the Government wants it.<\/li>\n<li>Gram Panchayat is mandated to provide employment <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">within 15 days of work application<\/span> failing which worker is entitled to unemployment allowance.<\/li>\n<li>Payment of wages within 15 days of competition of work failing which worker is entitled to delay <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">compensation of 0.05%\/ day of wages earned<\/span><strong>.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Key Facts Related to MGNREG Scheme during 2020-21:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>During the financial year 2020-21, around 11 crore people worked under the MGNREGS.<\/li>\n<li>The expenditure on MGNREGS has also increased.
