{"id":153745,"date":"2021-12-16T13:02:40","date_gmt":"2021-12-16T07:32:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?page_id=153745"},"modified":"2021-12-16T13:02:40","modified_gmt":"2021-12-16T07:32:40","slug":"jal-shakti-abhiyan-catch-the-rain-campaign","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/jal-shakti-abhiyan-catch-the-rain-campaign\/","title":{"rendered":"Jal Shakti Abhiyan: Catch the Rain campaign"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>News: <\/strong>The Prime Minister has launched the Jal Shakti Abhiyan: Catch the Rain campaign on World Water Day.<\/p>\n<p><strong>About Catch the Rain Campaign:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Catch the Rain is a Jan Andolan campaign.<\/li>\n<li>It aims to take water conservation at the grassroots level through people\u2019s participation.<\/li>\n<li>The campaign intends to accelerate water conservation across the country.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Aim:<\/strong> To encourage all stakeholders to<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"> create rainwater harvesting structures(RWHS)<\/span>. As it is suitable for the climatic conditions and subsoil strata. These structures will ensure the proper storage of rainwater.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tag line:<\/strong> Catch the rain, where it falls, when it falls.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Implementation:<\/strong> The campaign will be implemented by the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">National Water Mission(NWM), Ministry of Jal Shakti<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Coverage:<\/strong> The campaign will take place across the country, in both rural and urban areas. It will be implemented from March 22 to November 30 (the pre-monsoon and monsoon period) in the country.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Key activities under the Catch the Rain Campaign:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Catch the Rain Campaign will include certain key activities like,<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Removal of encroachments and desilting of tanks. This will increase rainwater storage capacity.<\/li>\n<li>The campaign includes drives to make water harvesting pits, rooftop RWHS and check dams.<\/li>\n<li>Removal of obstructions in the channels bringing water from the catchment areas.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Repairs to traditional Water Harvesting Systems(WHS)<\/span> like step-wells. Further, using defunct bore-wells and old wells to put the water back to aquifers.<\/li>\n<li>States have been requested to <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">open Rain Centers in each district<\/span>.
