{"id":154083,"date":"2021-12-16T23:08:04","date_gmt":"2021-12-16T17:38:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?page_id=154083"},"modified":"2021-12-22T14:13:56","modified_gmt":"2021-12-22T08:43:56","slug":"shanghai-cooperation-organisation-sco-2","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/shanghai-cooperation-organisation-sco-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>About the SCO: <\/strong>It is a permanent intergovernmental international organisation of the Eurasian Nations.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Its<strong> 21st meeting<\/strong> of Council of Heads of State was held on 17 September 2021 in Dushanbe, Tajikistan.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Secretariat- <\/strong>Beijing<\/li>\n<li><strong>Official languages<\/strong>&#8211; Russian and Chinese.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Policy:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It pursues its <strong>internal<\/strong> <strong>policy<\/strong> based on the principles of mutual trust, mutual benefit etc.<\/li>\n<li>Its <strong>external policy<\/strong> is conducted in accordance with the principles of<strong> non-alignment<\/strong>, non-targeting any third country, and openness.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Goals<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>strengthening <strong>mutual trust and neighbourliness<\/strong> among the member states;<\/li>\n<li>promoting their effective cooperation in politics, trade, the economy, research, technology, culture, education, energy, transport, tourism, environmental protection,<\/li>\n<li>Making joint efforts to ensure <strong>peace, security and stability in the region<\/strong>;<\/li>\n<li>Moving towards the establishment of a<strong> democratic, fair and rational<\/strong> new international political and economic order.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Origin and evolution:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The SCO&#8217;s predecessor-<strong>Shanghai Five: <\/strong>A security agreement formed in 1996 between China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, and Tajikistan.<\/p>\n<p><strong>SCO<\/strong>: In 2001 in Shanghai, with the addition of Uzbekistan with Shanghai Five members, a new organisation with deeper political and economic cooperation-SCO was formed.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the SCO Charter was signed in 2002 and entered into force in 2003.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Its <strong>membership<\/strong> has since expanded to <strong>eight states<\/strong>, with <strong>India and Pakistan<\/strong> joining on 9 June <strong>2017<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The SCO has<strong> four observer<\/strong> states, Afghanistan, Belarus, Iran and Mongolia.<\/li>\n<li>It has<strong> six dialogue partners<\/strong>, namely Azerbaijan, Armenia, Cambodia, Nepal, Turkey and Sri Lanka.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-155444 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/SCO-Member-Countries-.png?resize=750%2C546&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"750\" height=\"546\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/SCO-Member-Countries-.png?w=1466&amp;ssl=1 1466w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/SCO-Member-Countries-.png?resize=300%2C218&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/SCO-Member-Countries-.png?resize=1024%2C745&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/SCO-Member-Countries-.png?resize=768%2C559&amp;ssl=1 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Organizational Structure:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The<strong> Heads of State Council (HSC)<\/strong> is the supreme decision-making body in the SCO. It meets once a year and adopts decisions and guidelines on all important matters of the organisation.<\/li>\n<li>The<strong> SCO Heads of Government Council (HGC)<\/strong> meets once a year to discuss the organisation\u2019s multilateral cooperation strategy and priority areas, to resolve current important economic and other cooperation issues. It also approves the organisation\u2019s annual budget.<\/li>\n<li><strong>SCO has two permanent bodies<\/strong> \u2014\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Secretariat<\/strong> based in Beijing, China and<\/li>\n<li><strong>Executive Committee of<\/strong> the Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure (<strong>RATS<\/strong>) based in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.\n<ul>\n<li>RATS serves to promote cooperation of member states against the terrorism, separatism and extremism.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>About the SCO: It is a permanent intergovernmental international organisation of the Eurasian Nations.
