{"id":155903,"date":"2021-12-23T21:46:49","date_gmt":"2021-12-23T16:16:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?page_id=155903"},"modified":"2021-12-23T21:53:20","modified_gmt":"2021-12-23T16:23:20","slug":"universal-declaration-of-human-rights","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/universal-declaration-of-human-rights\/","title":{"rendered":"UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>About the Declaration:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It is a document that acts like a global road map for freedom and equality \u2013 protecting the rights of every individual, everywhere.<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>UDHR was adopted<\/strong> by the newly established <strong>United Nations<\/strong> on 10 December <strong>1948<\/strong>, in response to the acts of mankind during the <strong>Second World War.<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>The UDHR was discussed by all members of the <strong>UN Commission on Human Rights<\/strong> and finally adopted by the General Assembly in 1948.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Although it is<strong> not legally binding<\/strong>, the protection of the rights and freedoms set out in the Declaration has been incorporated into many national constitutions and domestic legal frameworks.<\/li>\n<li><strong>India&#8217;s role<\/strong>&#8211; At various stages of drafting, India made a series of<strong> substantive contributions to the numerous articles<\/strong> that made up the UDHR.<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>UDHR<\/strong>, together <strong>with<\/strong> the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights(<strong>ICCPR<\/strong>) and its two Optional Protocols, and the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights(<strong>ICESCR<\/strong>), <strong>form<\/strong> the so &#8211; called<strong> International Bill of Human Rights.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Significance of the declaration:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Its adoption recognised <strong>human rights<\/strong> to be the<strong> foundation<\/strong> <strong>for freedom, justice and peace<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>For the first time, the world had a <strong>globally agreed document<\/strong> that marked out all humans as being free and equal, regardless of sex, colour, creed, religion or other characteristics.<\/li>\n<li>The UDHR continues to serve as a <strong>foundation for national and international laws<\/strong> and standards.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Declaration outlines <span style=\"color: #0000ff\"><strong><a style=\"color: #0000ff\" href=\"https:\/\/infogram.com\/udhr-articles-1h0r6rk5nqmw4ek\">30 rights and freedoms that belong to all<\/a>. <span style=\"color: #000000\">(Open link for Articles Infogram)<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The 30 rights and freedoms set out in the UDHR include:\n<ul>\n<li>Right to be <strong>free from torture<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Right to <strong>freedom of expression<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Right to <strong>education<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Right to<strong> seek asylum<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Civil and political rights<\/strong>, such as the rights to <strong>life, liberty and privacy<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Economic, social and cultural rights<\/strong>, such as the rights to <strong>social security, health<\/strong> and adequate <strong>housing<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>About the Declaration: It is a document that acts like a global road map for freedom and equality \u2013 protecting the rights of every individual, everywhere.
