For example, growing burden on account of non-communicable diseases and some infectious diseases.<\/li>\n<li>The<strong> emergence of a robust health care industry<\/strong> estimated to be growing at double digit.<\/li>\n<li>The growing incidences of catastrophic <strong>expenditure due to health care costs<\/strong>, which are presently estimated to be one of the major contributors to poverty.<\/li>\n<li>A<strong> rising economic growth<\/strong> enables enhanced fiscal capacity. Therefore, a new health policy responsive to these contextual changes is required.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Targets set under the NHP 2017:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Increasing<strong> life expectancy to 70<\/strong> years from 67.5<\/li>\n<li>Reduce <strong>fertility rate to 2.1<\/strong> (Replacement levels) by 2025.<\/li>\n<li>Reduce <strong>infant mortality rate to 28<\/strong> by 2019.<\/li>\n<li>Reduce <strong>Under Five Mortality to 23<\/strong> by 2025.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Reducing premature mortality<\/strong> from cardiovascular diseases, cancer, diabetes or chronic respiratory diseases by 25% by 2025<\/li>\n<li>The policy seeks to achieve<strong> \u201990:90:90\u2032 global target by 2020<\/strong> \u2013 implying that 90% of all people living with HIV know their HIV status, 90% of those diagnosed with HIV infection receive sustained anti-retroviral therapy and 90% of those receiving anti-retroviral therapy will have viral suppression.<\/li>\n<li>Reducing the prevalence of<strong> blindness to 0.25 per 1000 persons<\/strong> by 2025 and<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>disease burden to be reduced by one third<\/strong> from the current levels.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Elimination<\/strong> of <strong>leprosy<\/strong> by 2018, <strong>kala-azar<\/strong> by 2017 and <strong>lymphatic filariasis<\/strong> in endemic pockets by 2017.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Policy thrust<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Ensuring Adequate Investment<\/strong> &#8211; The policy proposes a potentially achievable target of raising <strong>public health expenditure to 2.5% of the GDP i<\/strong>n a time bound manner.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Preventive and Promotive Health<\/strong> &#8211; The policy identifies coordinated action on seven priority areas for improving the environment for health:\n<ul>\n<li>The Swachh Bharat Abhiyan<\/li>\n<li>Balanced, healthy diets and regular exercises.<\/li>\n<li>Addressing tobacco, alcohol and substance abuse<\/li>\n<li>Yatri Suraksha \u2013 preventing deaths due to rail an d road traffic accidents<\/li>\n<li>Nirbhaya Nari \u2013 action against gender violence<\/li>\n<li>Reduced stress and improved safety in the work place<\/li>\n<li>Reducing indoor and outdoor air pollution<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Organization of Public Health Care Delivery<\/strong> &#8211; The policy proposes seven key policy shifts in organizing health care services.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>About NHP, 2017&#8211; It is the new(2017) National Health Policy after previous ones of 1983, 2002.
