{"id":157085,"date":"2021-12-29T21:12:41","date_gmt":"2021-12-29T15:42:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?page_id=157085"},"modified":"2021-12-29T21:12:41","modified_gmt":"2021-12-29T15:42:41","slug":"international-health-regulationsihr","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/international-health-regulationsihr\/","title":{"rendered":"International Health Regulations(IHR)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>About IHR:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It provides an overarching <strong>legal framework<\/strong> that defines countries\u2019 rights and obligations to <strong>report <\/strong>public health events<strong>, handling<\/strong> public health events and <strong>emergencies<\/strong> that have the potential to cross borders.<\/li>\n<li>The IHR are an instrument of international law that is <strong>legally-binding on 196 countries<\/strong>, including the 194 WHO Member States.<\/li>\n<li>The Regulations also <strong>outline the criteria to determine<\/strong> whether or not a particular event constitutes a <strong>\u201cpublic health emergency of international concern\u201d.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Principles of IHR: <\/strong>The IHR introduce important safeguards to protect the rights of travellers and other persons in relation to the treatment of <strong>personal data<\/strong>, <strong>informed consent<\/strong> and<strong> non-discrimination<\/strong> in the application of health measures under the Regulations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The <strong>goal<\/strong> of country implementation is to limit the spread of health risks to neighbouring countries and to prevent unwarranted travel and trade restrictions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Implementation of IHR:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>IHR require countries to <strong>designate a National IHR Focal Point<\/strong> for communications with WHO.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Establish and maintain<\/strong> core capacities for <strong>surveillance and response<\/strong>, including at designated points of entry.\n<ul>\n<li>Additional provisions address the areas of <strong>international travel and transport<\/strong> such as the <strong>health documents required<\/strong> for international traffic.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>The responsibility for<strong> implementing the IHR rests upon all States Parties<\/strong> that are bound by the Regulations and on WHO.\n<ul>\n<li><strong>WHO plays the coordinating role in IHR implementation<\/strong> and, together with its partners, helps countries to build capacities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>The IHR require countries to do the following:\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Detect<\/strong>: Make sure surveillance systems can detect acute public health events in timely matter.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Assess and report:<\/strong> Use the decision instrument given in the IHR to assess public health event and report to WHO through their National IHR Focal Point those that may constitute a public health emergency of international concern.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Respond<\/strong>: Respond to public health risks and emergencies.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>WHO<\/b> <strong>support countries<\/strong> in strengthening and maintaining their capacities for ensuring rapid detection, verification and response to public health risks, it develops and provides tools, guidance and training.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>About IHR: It provides an overarching legal framework that defines countries\u2019 rights and obligations to report public health events, handling public health events and emergencies that have the potential to cross borders.
