{"id":157095,"date":"2021-12-29T21:37:50","date_gmt":"2021-12-29T16:07:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?page_id=157095"},"modified":"2021-12-29T21:38:35","modified_gmt":"2021-12-29T16:08:35","slug":"protection-of-plant-varieties-and-farmers-rights-ppvfr-authority","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/protection-of-plant-varieties-and-farmers-rights-ppvfr-authority\/","title":{"rendered":"Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers\u2019 Rights (PPV&amp;FR) Authority"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>India having ratified<\/strong> the Agreement on Trade Related Aspects of the Intellectual Property Rights(<strong>TRIPS<\/strong>) has to make <strong>PPV&amp;FR Act,2001,<\/strong> for giving effect to Agreement.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>For<\/strong> the purpose of <strong>giving effect to<\/strong> &#8220;Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers&#8217; Rights <strong>Act, 2001&#8243;<\/strong>, Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers&#8217; Rights Authority<strong>(PPV&amp;FR) Authority has been setup.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>About PPV&amp;FR authority:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>HQ<\/strong>&#8211; Delhi.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Objective<\/strong>&#8211; To provide for the <strong>establishment of an effective system for:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>protection of plant varieties<\/strong>;<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>Rights of farmers <\/strong>in respect of their contribution made at any time in conserving, improving and making available plant genetic resources for the development of the new plant varieties.<\/li>\n<li>The<strong> Rights of plant breeders <\/strong>to stimulate investment for research and development for the development of new plant varieties.<\/li>\n<li>Encourage the<strong> development of new varieties of plants.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>General Functions of the Authority<\/strong><br \/>\n\u2022 Registration of new plant varieties, essentially derived varieties (EDV), extant varieties;<br \/>\n\u2022 Developing DUS (Distinctiveness, Uniformity and Stability) test guidelines for new plant<br \/>\nspecies;<br \/>\n\u2022 Developing characterization and documentation of varieties registered;<br \/>\n\u2022 Compulsory cataloguing facilities for all variety of plants;<br \/>\n\u2022 Documentation, indexing and cataloguing of farmers\u2019 varieties;<br \/>\n\u2022 Recognizing and rewarding farmers, community of farmers, particularly;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>India having ratified the Agreement on Trade Related Aspects of the Intellectual Property Rights(TRIPS) has to make PPV&amp;FR Act,2001, for giving effect to Agreement.
