Article 3 of Indian Constitution<\/strong>\u2014<\/p>\n<p>Parliament may by law\u2014<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">(a) form a new State by separation of territory from any State or by uniting two or more States or\u00a0parts of States or by uniting any territory to a part of any State;<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">(b) increase the area of any State;<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">(c) diminish the area of any State;<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">(d) alter the boundaries of any State;<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">(e) alter the name of any State:<\/p>\n<p>[Provided that no Bill for the purpose shall be introduced in either House of Parliament except on the recommendation of the President and unless, where, the proposal contained in the Bill affects the area,<br \/>\nboundaries or name of any of the States, the Bill has been referred by the President to the Legislature of that State for expressing its views thereon within such period as may be specified in the reference or within such further period as the President may allow and the period so specified or allowed has expired.]<\/p>\n<p>[<strong>Explanation I.<\/strong>\u2014In this article, in clauses (a) to (e), \u2015State\u2016 includes a Union territory, but in the proviso, \u2015State\u2016 does not include a Union territory.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Explanation II.<\/strong>\u2014The power conferred on Parliament by clause (a) includes the power to form a new State or Union territory by uniting a part of any State or Union territory to any other State or Union<br \/>\nterritory.]<\/p>\n<div class=\"next_prev d-flex justify-content-between\"><a class=\"btn btn-outline-secondary\" href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/article-2-of-indian-constitution\/\"><i class=\"fa-solid fa-angle-left\"><\/i> Article 2<\/a><br \/>\n<a class=\"btn btn-outline-secondary ml-2\" href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/article-4-of-indian-constitution\/\">Article 4<i class=\"fa-solid fa-angle-right\"><\/i><\/a><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Article 2 Article 4 Formation of new States and alteration of areas, boundaries or names of existing States.
