What is demographic dividend?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As per United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Demographic Dividend is the economic growth potential that can result from shifts in a population\u2019s age structure, mainly when the share of the working-age population is larger than the non-working-age share of the population<\/span><\/i>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As fertility declines, the share of the young population falls and that of the older, dependent population rises. <\/span>As fewer births are registered, the number of young dependents grows smaller relative to the working population. This <\/span>boosts working population productivity<\/span><\/b>, which leads to a demographic dividend.<\/span> #<\/span><\/p>\n

How is it beneficial to society?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h5>\n

The smaller share of children in the population enables <\/span>higher investment per child,<\/span><\/b> which means the <\/span>future entrants in the labour force can have better productivity<\/span><\/b> and thus boost income. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

But with the passage of time, the share of the older population rises and that of the working age population begins to fall. Hence, this dividend is available for a period of time only and is called, \u2018the window of demographic opportunity<\/strong>\u2019.<\/span> \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
