{"id":179590,"date":"2022-04-15T19:25:27","date_gmt":"2022-04-15T13:55:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?page_id=179590"},"modified":"2022-04-15T19:25:27","modified_gmt":"2022-04-15T13:55:27","slug":"basai-wetland","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/basai-wetland\/","title":{"rendered":"Basai Wetland"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>News<\/strong>: The Basai Wetlands has shrunk to a quarter of its original size over the years.<\/p>\n<p><strong>About Basai Wetland<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><b>Located in<\/b><\/strong>: Gurgaon, Haryana.<\/p>\n<p><strong><b>Flora and Fauna<\/b><\/strong>: It houses 20,000 birds of over 280 species including migratory birds and endangered birds.<\/p>\n<p><strong><b>Threats<\/b><\/strong>: Due to the accelerated expansion of Gurugram, the wetland continues to disappear under newly laid roads, modern housing constructions and other infrastructure development.<\/p>\n<p>Moreover, an upcoming expressway cutting through the terrain of the wetland has majorly impacted the flyway of thousands of migratory birds from Europe and Central Asia.<\/p>\n<p><strong><b>Significance<\/b><\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p>Recognized as a key biodiversity area by the IUCN and the Wildlife Institute of India<\/p>\n<p>Recognized globally as an Important Bird Area (IBA) by BirdLife International.<\/p>\n<p>The wetland lies in one of the paleochannel of the Sahibi River. It is a tributary of Yamuna which originates from the Aravalli range in Rajasthan and flows through west and South Haryana into Delhi where it is also known as the Najafgarh drain.<\/p>\n<p><strong><b>Note<\/b><\/strong>: The Basai Wetlands has not yet been declared a protected wetland by the Government of Haryana.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>News: The Basai Wetlands has shrunk to a quarter of its original size over the years.
