To avoid such incidents in future and to maintain India\u2019s trust in the field of Pharmaceuticals, following steps are required:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The <strong>Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (<\/strong>CDSCO) must be empowered to conduct surprise inspections of manufacturing plants. The plants can be graded accordingly to help consumers understand the differences in the quality of the drugs.<\/li>\n<li>A <strong>rigorous regulatory regime<\/strong> is needed to ensure India remains the pharmacy of the world and provides affordable medicines to the poorest sections of society also.<\/li>\n<li>There is need to regulate the sale of\u00a0<strong>substandard, even counterfeit, drugs<\/strong>which remain widespread in India, particularly, in smaller towns and villages.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Raw material<\/strong>s produced from small scale units should be properly validated in the testing laboratory\u00a0of the state to ascertain their quality specifications.<\/li>\n<li>There is a\u00a0need for a <strong>functional testing laboratory<\/strong> in every state\u00a0to fasten the work of specification of raw materials.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Skilled manpower<\/strong> from academic institutions\u00a0can be achieved through continuing education programmes.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Research schemes<\/strong> should be initiated by the industry via\u00a0direct contact with identified researcher\/faculty.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Focus on API manufacturing<\/strong> so that they can less rely on imported APIs.
