It coincided with the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between India and Central Asian countries. Central Asian Republics (<strong>Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan<\/strong>) form a part of India\u2019s extended neighbourhood.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Economic and strategic significance:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Central Asia is <strong>extremely rich in mineral and natural resources<\/strong>. Kazakhstan has one of the biggest reserves of uranium, besides stores of coal, lead, zinc, gold, and iron ore. The availability of c<strong>ommercially viable quantities of natural resources<\/strong>like oil, gas, uranium, lead, etc. make it important for <strong>India\u2019s energy security<\/strong> (Turkmenistan is part of the proposed <strong>TAPI gas pipeline<\/strong>).<\/li>\n<li>The\u00a0geographical location\u00a0of central Asia makes it important for India\u2019s aspiration to\u00a0<strong>connect to greater Eurasian region<\/strong>via land route including the <strong>International North South Transport Corridor (INSTC).<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The\u00a0<strong>illicit drug trade, religious fundamentalism and terrorism<\/strong>emanating from the region create greater\u00a0security challenge\u00a0for India.<\/li>\n<li>Central Asia has a\u00a0<strong>growing consumer market<\/strong>for goods and services that India can provide.<\/li>\n<li>Central Asia\u2019s\u00a0<strong>proximity<\/strong>to middle east, Afghanistan,\u00a0Pakistan and China\u00a0makes it important for India\u00a0<strong>geo-strategic interests<\/strong>.\u00a0g. security cooperation after the <strong>Taliban takeover in Afghanistan;<\/strong> to <strong>counter China\u2019s influence<\/strong> in the region;<\/li>\n<li>The Central Asian countries provide\u00a0<strong>trade and investment opportunities<\/strong> in multiple sectors like IT,\u00a0Pharmaceuticals, Tourism etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Given the historical, cultural and economic connect India is well placed to maximize its role in the development of the region.
