Also write some issues with the education of middle school children.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Conclusion<\/strong>: Write a way forward.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p><strong>Article 45 in Directive Principles of State Policy<\/strong> stated that the government should provide free and compulsory education to all until the age of 14 within 10 years from the commencement of the Constitution. <strong>Article 21A <\/strong>made elementary education a fundamental right rather than a directive principle.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Policies for early education:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan:<\/strong> It was started in 2001, to achieve the Universalisation of Elementary Education (UEE).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Mid Day Meal:<\/strong> Mid Day Meal Scheme was launched in 1995 with provisions to <strong>provide free meal <\/strong>to about 12 crore children studying in primary and upper-primary classes. The objective behind the scheme is to address the hunger and education, improve the nutrient status and increase the attendance and retention rates among the children.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Operation Blackboard<\/strong>: The purpose of the scheme is to provide the <strong>requisite institutional equipment and educational material<\/strong> for students studying in primary organizations to improve their education.<\/li>\n<li><strong>NIPUN Bharat Scheme<\/strong>: To create an enabling environment to ensure universal acquisition of <strong>foundational literacy and numeracy<\/strong>, so that every child achieves the desired learning competencies in reading, writing and numeracy by the end of Grade 3, by 2026-27.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><strong>Issues with the education of middle school children:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>ASER evidence suggests that <strong>basic learning levels<\/strong> of middle schoolchildren have remained <strong>low and stagnant <\/strong>for over a decade. The \u201cvalue\u201d add of each year of middle school is small.<\/li>\n<li>Many children are reaching standard eight without being sufficiently equipped with foundational literacy and numeracy skills.<\/li>\n<li>ASER data shows that an \u201c<strong>overambitious\u201d curriculum<\/strong> and the linear age-grade organisational structure of Indian schools result in a vast majority of children getting \u201cleft behind\u201d early in their school career.<\/li>\n<li>In the <strong>absence of in-school mechanisms for \u201ccatch up\u201d,<\/strong> children fall further and further behind academically. With this comes low motivation to learn and a lack of self-confidence.<\/li>\n<li>Academic content transacted in schools implicitly assumes that students are <strong>being prepared for college<\/strong>. However, the reality is that a college degree is neither relevant nor possible for most students who finish secondary school.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Much of the country\u2019s efforts in school education today are focused on ensuring strong foundations for children in the early years.
