They have been given autonomy to decide the admission procedure and fee structure. <strong>Over 6.5 lakh Indian students<\/strong> went abroad in 2022 to pursue higher education, according to data shared by the Union education department.<\/p>\n<h2>How it can halt educational emigration?<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>According to a recent survey by INTO University Partnerships, almost eight in 10 Indian students (76 per cent to be precise) look at a study abroad plan to work and settle overseas after completing their international degree.<\/li>\n<li>Indian students who want to study abroad will be\u00a0<strong>more than a million<\/strong><strong>in the near future<\/strong>. Campuses of foreign universities in India can admit only a fraction of the students going abroad.<\/li>\n<li>Foreign universities in India will<strong>bridge the gap between the skill-development system and traditional degree education<\/strong>\u00a0by identifying and mitigating bottlenecks in India\u2019s skill development ecosystem.<\/li>\n<li>It will also <strong>augment<\/strong><strong>technology transfer, research and innovation<\/strong>\u00a0in the country. This will further lead to the creation of\u00a0<strong>strategic training programme<\/strong>s and a pool of\u00a0<strong>proficient individuals<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>who can leverage<strong>\u00a0emerging global opportunities.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>This provides an opportunity to tap into the very <strong>large pool ofNRI educators<\/strong>\u00a0in universities all over the world and who can bring the best of both\u00a0<strong>local knowledge and international experience and connections.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>What are the challenges to halt emigration that still remains?<\/h2>\n<p>However due to following points this step may not halt educational emigration:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Educational emigration will remain high unless India strengthens the <strong>skill development ecosystem<\/strong> in higher education.<\/li>\n<li>Students go there for <strong>different reasons<\/strong> such as living experience in the developed world, staying in different culture, work experience, migrate etc.<\/li>\n<li>University campuses in the US not only offer a\u00a0<strong>vibrant community of international scholarship,\u00a0<\/strong>but also an e<strong>cosystem of internships, apprenticeships, skill development and vocational training courses.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Foreign varsities that offer their curricula in India can only provide a part of the experience enjoyed by students who study abroad.<\/li>\n<li>The courses offered in foreign institutes have\u00a0<strong>strong interdisciplinary components<\/strong>that branch into\u00a0<strong>skill-development and vocational training<\/strong>. Indian students who wish to bring their skills on a par with\u00a0<strong>global industry requirement<\/strong>s, would prefer to go to a university\u2019s home campus.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>India needs to improve the condition of Higher education, to ensure it becomes attractive to both Indian as well as foreign students.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Introduction: Contextual introduction.
