In 1994 Committee on Standards in Public Life was appointed by United Kingdom government to advice PM on ethical standards of public life under the chairmanship of Lord Nolan.\u00a0 It promoted certain code of conduct called Seven Principles of Public Life<\/span> .<\/span><\/p>\n

1.Selflessness<\/strong>: Holders of public office should act solely in terms of the public interest.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

2.\u202fIntegrity<\/strong>: Holders of public office must avoid placing themselves under any obligation to people or organisations that might try inappropriately to influence them in their work. <\/span>They should not act or take decisions in order to gain financial or other material benefits for themselves, their family, or their friends.<\/span><\/p>\n

3.\u202fObjectivity<\/strong>: Holders of public office must act and take decisions impartially, fairly and on merit, using the best evidence and without discrimination or bias.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

4.\u202fAccountability<\/strong>: Holders of public office are accountable to the public for their decisions and actions and must submit themselves to the scrutiny necessary to ensure this.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

5.\u202fOpenness<\/strong>: Holders of public office should act and take decisions in an open and transparent manner. Information should not be withheld from the public unless there are clear and lawful reasons for so doing.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

6.\u202fHonesty<\/strong>: Holders of public office should be truthful.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

7.\u202fLeadership<\/strong>: Holders of public office should exhibit these principles in their own behaviour.
