It includes sections on unauthorized access, data theft, and offenses related to computer systems<\/li>\n<li><strong>Cyber Appellate Tribunal<\/strong>: The Cyber Appellate Tribunal handles appeals against orders issued by the Adjudicating Officer under the IT Act.<\/li>\n<li><strong>National Cyber Security Policy, 2013<\/strong>: The policy focuses on creating a secure cyberspace environment, promoting research and development, and enhancing the legal framework.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Information Technology (Amendment) Act, 2008<\/strong>: The 2008 amendment introduced offenses like identity theft, cyberterrorism, and the publication\/transmission of sexually explicit material without consent.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><strong>Measures to strengthen the mechanism to curb the issue of deep fake<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Responsibility of social media intermediaries<\/strong>&#8211;\u00a0Social media intermediaries have to develop technology to detect and report deepfakes on their sites like watermarking AI-generated content. This will discourage the creation and dissemination of malicious deepfakes.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Digital India Act<\/strong>&#8211;\u00a0The forthcoming Digital India Act must have\u00a0penal provisions in case of malicious deepfakes. India must take lessons from China\u2019s comprehensive regulations on deepfakes.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Public awareness and responsibility<\/strong>&#8211;\u00a0Social awareness about the menace of malicious fake videos must be promoted. The public must be made aware of the \u2018Pause, think, and share\u2018 principle for social media.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Implementing the principles of the Bletchley Declaration<\/strong>&#8211;\u00a0The declaration calls to address risks and responsibilities associated with frontier AI like deepfakes. India, which is among the signatories must take the lead in finalizing the\u00a0global AI regulatory framework,\u00a0following the declaration principles.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><strong>Conclusion<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Strengthening the legal framework to combat deepfakes requires a comprehensive approach that includes specific legislation, capacity building, awareness programs, and enhanced collaboration between various stakeholders.
