Aditya-L1 mission is aimed at studying the Sun from an orbit around the Sun-Earth Lagrangian point 1 (L1) which is about 1.5 million kilometres from the Earth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"208\" height=\"209\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogadmin.forumias.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/sun-1.jpg?resize=208%2C209&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-50635\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What are Lagrange points?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lagrange Points are are\npositions where the gravitational pull of two large masses precisely equals the\ncentripetal force required for a small object to move with them. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>These are positions in space where the\ngravitational forces of a two body system like the Sun and the Earth produce\nenhanced regions of attraction and repulsion. <\/li><li>These can be used by spacecraft to reduce fuel\nconsumption needed to remain in position.<\/li><li>There are five special points where a small mass\ncan orbit in a constant pattern with two larger masses. Of the five Lagrange\npoints, three are unstable and two are stable. The unstable Lagrange points are\nL1, L2 and L3 and the stable Lagrange points L4 and L5.<\/li><li>The L1 point of the Earth-Sun system provide an\nuninterrupted view of the sun. In order to get the continuous view of the sun\nAditya- L1 satellite will be placed in the halo orbit around the Lagrangian\npoint 1 (L1) of the sun-earth system.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Objectives of Aditya-L1 mission: <\/strong>Aditya-L1\nis the India\u2019s first dedicated scientific mission, which aims to send a\nsatellite to study sun\u2019s chromosphere. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The objective of the mission is to study the\ndynamic nature of the sun\u2019s outer most layers, the corona and the chromosphere.<\/li><li>To collect data about Coronal Mass Ejections\n(CME).<\/li><li>It will study on origin of solar storms and\ntheir path through the interplanetary space from the Sun to the Earth.<\/li><li>The studies will also focus on collection of\ninformation for space weather prediction.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Importance of Aditya-L1\nmission:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>This mission will present clear picture of sun\u2019s\nchromosphere, which in turn will help us to understand the concept of sun\u2019s\ncorona visible during solar eclipse. <\/li><li>It will help to study the discharging of charged\nparticles into space which affect the environment there called solar wind.<\/li><li>The data from Aditya mission will be helpful in\ndiscriminating different models for the origin of solar storms and also for\nconstraining how the storms evolve and what path they take through the\ninterplanetary space from the Sun to the Earth.<\/li><li>It will help in measuring solar\nirradiance variations.<\/li><li>It will help in study the\nvariation of solar wind properties as well as its distribution and\ncharacteristics.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/li><li>It will help in studying the\nheating mechanism of the solar corona.<\/li><li>It will further enhance\nISRO\u2019s capabilities for more challenging missions.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>This project provides an opportunity to scientists from multiple institutions within the country to participate in space based observations. Aditya-L1 project will enable a comprehensive understanding of the different processes of the sun.
