Climate change is a global phenomenon having no boundaries. It requires a nationwide effort especially efforts at local and state level. It is responsibilities of all sectors to contain climate change. But a more active role for climate change action is needed to be played by the states.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Role of states to\ntackle the climate change?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. States need to play an active role on important\nenvironmental issued by functioning as policy innovators, testing successful\npolicies been adopted across the world. <\/li>
  2. States plays an important role in understanding of the\nlocal situation and circumstances  and help\nin coordination with all the stakeholders. <\/li>
  3. State action on climate change is needed to achieve\nthe reductions targets on the ground. <\/li>
  4. They play an important role in policy formulation\nthrough local inputs and conveying regional differences. E.g Hill states needs\nand action differ and are more important than other states wrt climate change\naction.<\/li>
  5. States are responsible for on the ground implementation\nof national policies.<\/li>
  6. State governments\u2019 legislation along with national\nlegislation are critical for wide action on the ground.<\/li>
  7. States role is also important to check any\nenvironmental damaging act and policy of centre. Also it put pressure on centre\nto act against climate change as they are voice of local community.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    How India should\nshape its economic policies in light of climate change:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    1. Economic policies should focus on protecting the\npoor and vulnerable sections of society through an inclusive and sustainable\ndevelopment strategy, sensitive to climate change.<\/li>
    2. It should focus on achieving national growth through\necological sustainable way<\/li>
    3. Focus should be on devising efficient and\ncost-effective strategies for Demand Side Management in a sustainable way. <\/li>
    4. Digitisation should be increased so as to reduce\nburden on environment for paper.<\/li>
    5. Efforts to deploy appropriate technologies for both\nadaptation and mitigation of greenhouse gases emissions through policies is\nneeded.<\/li>
    6. It should also focus on new and innovative forms of\nmarket, regulatory and voluntary mechanisms to promote sustainable development.<\/li>
    7. The implementation of programmes by including civil\nsociety and local government institutions and through public- private\npartnership should be priority. <\/li>
    8. Also efforts should be made to achieve international\ncooperation for research, development, sharing and transfer of technologies .<\/li>
    9. Green energies and green projects should be\npromoted.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

      Climate change is real and demand effective state role and economic policies. Coordination at all level is required. Also sustainable development should be focus of both states and centre.
