Political interference and lack of critical debates is certainly the most important reason for poor outcomes in education sector. This has led to poor education system in India impacting teacher quality and student learning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Issue of political interference in\neducation system:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Political\ninterference is pervasive at all levels from selecting location of\ninstitutions, approval of grant-in-aid status, selection of examination centres\nto all senior appointments and in many states from VC to college Principals to\nDistrict Education Officers. <\/li>
  2. There is\nlarge scale corruption in appointments, transfers, approval to affiliate and\ngrant recognition of institutions, even going to the extent of manipulation of\nexam results. <\/li>
  3. Undeserving\neducational institutions often received rapid accreditation, while ‘more\nqualified’ institutions wait for long periods, the answer almost invariably\nwould relate to political interference. <\/li>
  4. Widespread\ncorruption prevails in the functioning of regulators like AICTE, UGC, MCI and\nNCTE. <\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    Lack of critical\ndebate in education system:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    1. Debate is\na great device for engaging students and bringing life to the classroom. Lack\nof  debates in the classroom prevent\nstudents from understanding essential critical-thinking and presentation\nskills. <\/li>
    2. Lack of\ndebates prevented nurturing of rational thinking, manners and handicap\nqualities of organization of thoughts and public leadership. <\/li>
    3. Lack of\ndebate has led to students inability of relevant learning and prevented deep thinking\nabilities. <\/li>
    4. Wrote\nlearning and lack of critical debates has led to biased learning preventing\nstudents from testing their thoughts.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

      What should be done?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

      1. The\nprocess of selection and appointment of Vice-Chancellor should be\n“depoliticised” and done purely on merit. <\/li>
      2. An independent\nmechanism for teacher recruitment, creation of an Autonomous Teacher\nRecruitment Board and revamp of teacher education system. <\/li>
      3. A new\ntransparent system should be established for approval, affiliation and regular\nevaluation of new institutions, with transparent processes, based on clearly\nestablished principles, with full public disclosure.<\/li>
      4. It is\nimportant to set the right tone for discussion in the classroom early on in the\nsemester to establish a rapport with students. Studies have shown that students\nwho contribute to class conversations early are much more likely to continue\ncontributing to class discussions later on. Therefore, it is vital to find ways\nto involve all students in the classroom debates.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

        With stress on wrote learning and political interferences, teacher quality has been decreased. Teachers are trained to make students fit to get job and not develop deep and critical thinking. Thus an overhaul of education system with focus on critical debates and less political interference can help in improving Indian education system.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
