A new report warns that planetary and human systems are reaching a point of no return by mid-century, in which the prospect of a largely uninhabitable Earth leads to the breakdown of nations and the international order. Environmental problems are certainly real, but mere talk and summits do a disservice to the cause of tackling those challenges by not doing the basic minimum required to tackle the climate change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Issue of mere\ntalks and not focus on right solution:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Instead of focusing on solutions, like nuclear\npower, which does not emit CO2, and other technological breakthroughs that have\nthe potential to reduce carbon emissions, mere talks and summits would not\nserve the purpose. <\/li>
  2. Humanity has reached the \u201cpoint of no return\u201d\nmany times already. Unless drastic measures are not taken within the next 10\nyears, the world would reach a point of no return.<\/li>
  3. Entire nations could be wiped off the face of\nthe Earth by rising sea levels if drastic action is not taken immediately. <\/li>
  4.  Mere talk\nby developed nation would not help. What is needed is more funding to\ndeveloping nations to support climate change mitigation efforts.<\/li>
  5. Technological progress allows nature to rebound.\nFor example, increasing crop yields to produce more food with less land reduces\nthe environmental impact of agriculture. Developed nation\u2019s reluctance in\nsharing technological advancements would not serve the purpose of tackling\nclimate change.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    Steps and\naction needed:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    1. Technological progress and  economic development is must to protect the\nenvironment and vulnerable sections. As people rise out of extreme poverty,\nthey often come to care more about environmental stewardship. <\/li>
    2. A behaviour change is must and should be\ninstilled in peoples to shed environmental destroying activities.<\/li>
    3. There is need to focus on renewable energies and\nnuclear energy should be explored as it is environmental friendly.<\/li>
    4. Government should be supporting green projects\nand green activities with right incentives.<\/li>
    5. A shift to electric vehicles, plastic ban, enforcing\ncarbon tax etc are some policy measures that every country need to adopt.<\/li>
    6. More planting of trees, stringent punishment on\ncutting trees would ensure carbon sync and is needed to tackle rising CO2.<\/li>
    7. Focus should be on R&D and innovation to develop\nclimate resilient products and crops to prevent food crisis in future.<\/li>
    8. Developed countries need to fund more to\ndeveloping countries to help them to sustainably develop and tackle climate\nchange.<\/li>
    9. Community participation is must so that efforts\nare made at local levels. For this strengthening of grass root democracy is\nmust.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

      Environmental challenges should be taken seriously. And just as with so many other problems humanity has faced, environmental problems should be solvable given the right technology and spreading prosperity.
