The Panchsheel or \u201cFive Principles of Peaceful Existence\u201d was a joint statement issued during Chinese premier Zhou Enlai\u2019s visits to India in 1954. It was the period marking end of colonialism and emergence of new nations in Asia and Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These five principles were as\nfollows:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    1. Today Panchsheel principles hold relevance as it\nis important for India to preserve her independence, sovereignty, territorial\nintegrity. <\/li>
    2. Panchsheel is needed to protect established\nrelations which are diminishing with some countries at equal footing <\/li>
    3. It hold relevance to reduce tensions in the\nregion and reduce threat of  confrontation\nand wars. <\/li>
    4. It is important to establish India as an equal\npartner and reliable neighbour to countries like China. <\/li>
    5. Panchsheel is a framework of basic tenets of\nengagement between the two sovereign countries and withstands the test of the\ntime. It is equally relevant for all times. <\/li>
    6. It is important to send message to the world\nthat India is a mature democracy and is not an aggressive nation.<\/li>
    7. Panchsheel is important for Greater role at the\nglobal level for regional cooperation and connectivity.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

      Panchsheel was never renewed after its expiry. India\u2019s development priorities will determine the engagements with the world. India\u2019s secular, plural and liberal democracy should inspire the world.
