Media is connecting link among citizens and state. It plays an important role in keeping the public informed and safe. In a way it provide information about various issues, threats and inefficiencies of system and security agencies to the citizens. Role of media in tackling terrorism:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Source of information:<\/strong> Information is\nimportant for a safety of a nation and its growth. Media help in providing\ncritical information to citizens. E.g media inform about any attack, or about\nany warning by state for its citizens etc.  <\/li>
  2. Educate: <\/strong>Media is important to educate\npeople on security issues that are of utmost important for the society. E.g Loopholes\nin police system are threat to society. It is important to report exact number\nof cases and help in sensitising the society.<\/li>
  3. Awareness:<\/strong> Media make society aware of propagandas\nand fake news that are used to spread panic and an environment of insecurity\namong citizens.<\/li>
  4. Watchdog: <\/strong>Media reporting on public\naffairs and investigations into wrongdoing in the administration of public\naffairs is must for a healthy democracy. This includes exposing frauds or\ncorruption cases that personally benefit politicians. This is critical\nespecially in defence procurements that could jeopardise India\u2019s security and\ninterests. E.g. rafale exposure and related corruption.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    How should media help in anti-terrorism?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    1. Access to the site of events should be provided\nonly with the consent of law enforcement officers responsible for communication\nwith the media, under their reliable protection and only if all participants\nare guaranteed safety.<\/li>
    2. Actions of media representatives should not\nendanger the lives of victims (hostages) and other persons.<\/li>
    3. Direct interviews with terrorists and their\nhostages should be prohibited.<\/li>
    4. The media have no right to transmit information\nthat could damage the course of the hostage rescue operation.<\/li>
    5. The media should not broadcast or publish\nterrorist claims without the permission of authorised persons.<\/li>
    6. Incident coverage should be objective.<\/li>
    7. The media should commit themselves to refrain\nfrom sensational and panic-inducing headlines, as well as from the constant\nreproduction of bloody photographs (and bloody images on TV).<\/li>
    8. When covering terrorist attacks, the media\nshould take into account the feelings of hostages, other victims, their relatives.<\/li>
