With rising threats of terrorism, fake news and propagandas by other states, role of information, data, surveillance and intelligence has ever increased in a society. It is important for the security of a nation to gather right information and to act on it to prevent any attack. Failure of information is not only hazardous but can lead to other attacks similar to Mumbai attacks or 9\/11.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Significance of\nright information for internal security:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Deter any\nattacks or threats: <\/strong>At the state\nlevel, intelligence may help to save lives. It is important to prevent wars,\nattacks and terrorism, and hence save lives. <\/li>
  2. To develop\nintelligence: <\/strong>It must be\nnoted that \u2018information\u2019 and \u2018intelligence\u2019 are two different terms.   4. Regulating\nunregulated domain: <\/strong>Social media\nplatforms are self-regulated as government does not regulate content appearing\non social network platforms. Hence due diligence and information of radical\nelements on social media is need of the hour.<\/li>
  5. Organised\ncrime: <\/strong>Information about organised crime is\na tool for facilitating related threats of terrorism and propagandas like\nefforts to provoke extremism, money laundering, violence and crime.<\/li>
  6. Neutralising\nterrorist activities: <\/strong>Surveillance is\nimportant to counter possible terrorist activities by offering better\ninformation on potential terror attacks.<\/li>
  7. Policy\nmaking: <\/strong>Information provides the basis for\npolicy or decisions and allow people, organizations and states, to act\nrationally. Policy is usually formulated based on principles or grounded in ideologies.\nInformation help in formulating an objective and rational policy related to\nnational security. <\/li>
