Further, the current changing global politics and major global problems like terrorism posing a need of reforming NAM under current geo-political realities. Focus is being shifted from non-alignment to multi-alignment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Need of Nonalignment 2.0:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>World has\nagain moved towards bi-polarity, one led by US and other by China-Russia. The\nwar torn Syria is prime example of this, where both US and Russia is asserting\npower.<\/li><li>The\nescalating tension in Indo-pacific region due to China\u2019s assertion and US acting\nas a counterweight to check the Chinese expansionist policy.<\/li><li>The large\nscale migration in Europe and Asia due to the unstable regimes and ethnic\nconflict in different parts of world.<\/li><li>Issue of\nglobal climate change and occurrence of catastrophic disasters raising demand\nto form global consensus to deal with it.<\/li><li>Changing US\npolicies, protectionism, prevalent terrorism and nuclearisation of middle east.<\/li><li>Formation of\nmultiple regional economic groupings like TPP and RCEP and fading away of\nmultilateral bodies WTO from global arena.<\/li><li>NAM\nestablishes itself as a deliberative and coordinating platform for the\ndeveloping countries as it deals with newly emerging problems from global\nwarming, debt-affected low income countries to UN reforms.<\/li><li>NAM provides\nan alternative medium to tackle these issues in fresh and innovative ways.<\/li><li>Even while\nbuilding alliances with others, we availed of the NAM umbrella to promote our\nnational strategies when it suited us.<\/li><li>India\nrecently is becoming closer to the U.S. Both China and Russia, are oppose to U.S.\nthat can cause problems to India.<\/li><li>Doklam and\nthe Maldives have shown that China is in no mood for a compromise. In fact,\nChina has attributed the increase of its defence budget to the formation of the\nQuadrilateral, which is being seen as a direct threat to China.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What should be done?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>An obvious\nway is to revive NAM by breathing new life into it and making it fit to deal\nwith the new norm to suit current multipolar world.<\/li><li>A partnership\nof near equals like IBSA (India, Brazil and South Africa) with similar\ninterests without any ideological conflict is probably the best model to\nfollow.<\/li><li>Something on\nthe lines of the G-15 organised by India and like-minded countries some years\nago could be put together with the objective of dealing with the issues like\nclimate change, terrorism and protectionism.<\/li><li>The members\nmay have links with the U.S., China and Russia, but should be able to work\ntogether without the undue influence of the three.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>NAM as a concept can never be irrelevant, principally it provides a strong base to foreign policy of its members. It should be seen as \u201cStrategic Autonomy\u201d, which is the need of the hour of today\u2019s world. The principles of NAM still can guide the nations towards it.
