Indian Space Research Organisation has\nlaunched a special programme for school children called \u2018Young Scientist\nProgramme\u2019 (YSP) or \u2018Yuva Vigyani Karyakram\u2019 (YUVIKA) which is primarily aimed\nat imparting basic knowledge on space technology, space science and space\napplications to the younger ones. The programme will include talks, experience\nsharing by the eminent scientists, facility and lab visits, exclusive sessions\nfor discussions with experts, practical and feedback sessions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


\nNeed of the program: <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Scientific temper: <\/strong>Such a programme is needed to constantly engage youngsters\nacross India and to capture their scientific temperament. The YSP will inspire\nstudents across schools and colleges.<\/li>
  2. Manpower: <\/strong>Growth of the space sector is hampered by the scarcity of\ngraduates and technicians with relevant skills and qualifications. Catching\nthem at a young age would\nhelp students to acquire required skills and enter space careers at a later stage.<\/li>
  3. Career in space: <\/strong>The space industry is the fastest growing industry today\nand promises to be one of the most important sectors for job creation in the\nfuture. Space careers include being a space scientist, space engineer,\nmathematicians and even administrators. Programmes like YSP will motivate youth\nto take interest in space activities and develop a career in it.<\/li>
  4. Future scientists: <\/strong>YSP is important to develop future scientists especially in the space sector. It would help in\nbuilding a diverse community of next-generation scientific leaders.<\/li>
  5. Experience sharing: <\/strong>Schools have limitations when it comes to offering\nreal-time training experience in space science. Limitations are due to lack of\nsupportive curriculum, space, time and expertise of in house faculty. Thus,\nsuch a programme will bring several advantages like well-researched content,\nexperienced faculties and defined learning process to the school. <\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    Significance\nof the program: <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    1. Interest in space activities: <\/strong>Its intent is to arouse their interest in the\nemerging areas of space activities. Indian students can reach for the skies if\ninquisitiveness is provided to them. The interest in space\nis instilled in them right from the school days, the\nstudents can really go big in the field of space and astronomy.<\/li>
    2. Awareness: <\/strong>Many students do not know about space activities in the\ncountry. The program is aimed at creating awareness amongst the youngsters who\nare the future building blocks of our Nation. <\/li>
    3. Rural involvement: <\/strong>Rural students lack means to get information about space\nactivities and how to make a career in it. Students belonging to\nthe rural area have been given special weightage in the selection criteria. <\/li>
    4. Leadership skills: <\/strong>YSP would help in developing leadership skills and a fuller\nunderstanding of global, regional and industry agendas. <\/li>
    5. Platform for engagement: <\/strong>The YSP will provide the students an excellent\nopportunity and open discussion platform for a scientific and personal\nexperience and exchanging ideas. Scientists will present and discuss their\nactivities in laboratory medicine, benefit from career skills development.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

      It is difficult for children to maintain an\ninterest in science just from their activities in school. Thus, it is important\nto foster their interest outside the classroom through such programs.
