It\nworks to promote and protect the human rights that are guaranteed under\ninternational law and stipulated in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights\nof 1948. It work towards prevention of human rights abuse by raising voice\nagainst it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Structure\nof OHCHR:<\/strong> UN Human Rights is part of the United\nNations Secretariat. It has following substantive divisions:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Thematic Engagement, Special Procedures and\nRight to Development Division (TESPRDD): <\/strong>It develops policy and provides guidance, tools, advice and\ncapacity-strengthening support on thematic human rights issues, including for\nhuman rights mainstreaming purposes; and provides support to the Human Rights\nCouncil\u2019s special procedures.<\/li><li><strong>Human Rights Council and Treaty Mechanisms\nDivision (CTMD):<\/strong> It provides\nsubstantive and technical support to the HRC and supports the human rights\ntreaty bodies.<\/li><li><strong>Field Operations and Technical Cooperation\nDivision (FOTCD):<\/strong> It is\nresponsible for overseeing and implementing the Office\u2019s work in the field.<\/li><li><strong>Dedicated services and sections:<\/strong> These report directly to the Deputy High\nCommissioner, handle core management, planning, coordination and outreach\nfunctions.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Objectives\nof OHCHR:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Human rights:<\/strong> The mandate of the Office of the High Commissioner for\nHuman Rights (OHCHR) is to ensure universal enjoyment of all human rights.<\/li><li><strong>International cooperation: <\/strong>To promote international cooperation at state\nlevel and throughout the United Nations system for human rights.<\/li><li><strong>Implementation of international standards:<\/strong> Promote universal ratification and\nimplementation of international standards and to remove obstacles to their\neffective implementation.<\/li><li><strong>Response: <\/strong>To appropriately respond to serious violations of human\nrights and support human rights organs and treaty monitoring bodies.<\/li><li><strong>Services: <\/strong>Provide education, information advisory services and\ntechnical assistance in the field of human rights.<\/li><li><strong>Human rights infrastructures:<\/strong> Promote the establishment of national human\nrights infrastructures and undertake human rights field activities and\noperations.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Functioning\nof OHCHR:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Human rights violations: <\/strong>As the principal United Nations office mandated\nto promote and protect human rights for all, OHCHR leads global human rights\nefforts and speaks out objectively in the face of human rights violations\nworldwide. <\/li><li><strong>Human rights research:<\/strong> OHCHR also provides a forum for identifying, highlighting and developing\nresponses to today&#8217;s human rights challenges, and act as the principal focal\npoint of human rights research, education, public information, and advocacy\nactivities in the United Nations system. <\/li><li><strong>Work with national governments: <\/strong>It assists governments, which bear the primary\nresponsibility for the protection of human rights, to fulfil their obligations\nand supports individuals to claim their rights. Moreover, it speaks out\nobjectively on human rights violations.<\/li><li><strong>Partnerships: <\/strong>OHCHR work with civil society, national human rights\ninstitutions and other United Nations entities and international organizations,\nsuch as the International Labour in their efforts to promote and protect human\nrights.<\/li><li><strong>Working especially against AIDS: <\/strong>As human rights are intimately linked with the\nspread and impact of AIDS, OHCHR endeavours to contribute to an effective and\nsustainable response to the epidemic by raising awareness and understanding.\nOHCHR has worked in close\ncollaboration with UNAIDS towards the promotion and protection of human rights\nin the context of AIDS.<\/li><li><strong>Provides technical expertise:<\/strong> UN Human Rights provides assistance in the form\nof technical expertise and capacity-development in order to support the\nimplementation of international human rights standards on the ground. <\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Over the years, OHCHR has increased its\npresence in the field, reaching out to the people who need it the most. But\norganisation is criticised for being soft on developed countries for repeated\nhuman rights violations.
