Choosing optional is quite a tricky part for IFS\/IFoS, But I would try to simplify the choices. Some of the criteria that are crucial in determining the choice of optional are-<\/p>\n

  1. Marks Fetching ability of the subject<\/li>\n
  2. Availability of books for subject<\/li>\n
  3. length of syllabus<\/li>\n
  4. Availability of coaching\/ guidance for subject<\/li>\n
  5. Comfortability with a subject<\/li>\n
  6. The success rate of a subject<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    And for those, even if above points don\u2019t hold good and still you want to choose an optional, then still you can go ahead provided you have a belief that particular subject can be completed by you.<\/p>\n

    So, All optional are analyzed based on the above criteria-<\/p>\n

    AGRICULTURE<\/strong><\/h3>\n
      \n
    1. Marks Fetching ability of subject<\/strong>-Fair to good.<\/li>\n
    2. Availability of books for subject<\/strong>-Readily available in the market, as its very well established subject and most of the national universities, teach it.<\/li>\n
    3. Length of syllabus<\/strong>-Syllabus is short to moderate in length.<\/li>\n
    4. Availability of coaching\/ guidance for the subject<\/strong>-Good amount of guidance is available, but coaching is very few<\/li>\n
    5. The success rate of subject-<\/strong>It is one of the most successful subjects in IFS\/IFoS examination, with a lot of Agriculture graduates making it to the final list, even many of non-agri graduates make it to the final list.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      The only con of this Optional, maybe, is you have to compete with agriculture graduates\/pg\/PhDs.<\/p>\n

      AGRICULTURAL ENGINEERING<\/strong><\/h3>\n
        \n
      1. Marks Fetching ability of subject<\/strong>-Fair to good.<\/li>\n
      2. Availability of books for subject<\/strong>-difficult to procure from market.<\/li>\n
      3. Length of syllabus<\/strong>-Syllabus is moderate in length.<\/li>\n
      4. Availability of coaching\/ guidance for subject<\/strong>-very less amount of guidance is available, also coaching are very few.<\/li>\n
      5. The success rate of subject-<\/strong>It is one of the average successful subjects in IFS\/IFoS examination<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

        ANIMAL HUSBANDRY & VETERINARY SCIENCE<\/h3>\n
          \n
        1. Marks Fetching ability of subject<\/strong>-Fair to good.<\/li>\n
        2. Availability of books for subject<\/strong>-Fairly available in the market, as its very well established subject and most of the national universities, teach it.<\/li>\n
        3. Length of syllabus<\/strong>-Syllabus is moderate to long in length.<\/li>\n
        4. Availability of coaching\/ guidance for the subject<\/strong>-Fair amount of guidance is available, but coaching is very few<\/li>\n
        5. The success rate of subject-<\/strong>It is one of the fairly successful subjects in IFS\/IFoS examination.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

          The only con of this Optional may be, is you have to compete with agriculture and veterinary professionals.<\/p>\n

          BOTANY<\/h3>\n

          1. Marks Fetching ability of subject<\/strong>\u2013 Good to very good.<\/li>\n
          2. Availability of books for subject<\/strong>-Readily available in the market, as its very well established subject and most of the national universities, teach it.<\/li>\n
          3. Length of syllabus<\/strong>-Syllabus is moderate to lengthy.<\/li>\n
          4. Availability of coaching\/ guidance for the subject<\/strong>-Good amount of guidance is available, some coaching is also available.<\/li>\n
          5. The success rate of subject-<\/strong>It is one of the most successful subjects in IFS\/IFoS examination, with a lot of Botany\/Zoology graduates making it to the final list.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

            The only con of this Optional may be, is you have to compete with Botany\/Zoology graduates\/pg\/PhDs.<\/p>\n

            CHEMISTRY<\/strong><\/h3>\n

            2. Availability of books for subject<\/strong>-Readily available in the market, as its very well established subject and most of the national universities, teach it.<\/li>\n
            3. Length of syllabus<\/strong>-Syllabus is lengthy.<\/li>\n
            4. Availability of coaching\/ guidance for the subject<\/strong>-Good amount of guidance is available, some coaching is also available.<\/li>\n
            5. The success rate of subject-<\/strong>It is one of the fairly successful subjects in IFS\/IFoS examination, with some of the graduates making it to the final list.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

              The only con of this Optional may be, is you have to compete with established graduates\/pg\/PhDs.<\/p>\n

              CHEMICAL ENGINEERING<\/strong><\/h3>\n

              2. Availability of books for subject<\/strong>-Fairly available in the market, \u00a0its very well established subject but material to procure is a bit difficult.<\/li>\n
              3. Length of syllabus<\/strong>-Syllabus is moderate to lengthy.<\/li>\n
              4. Availability of coaching\/ guidance for the subject<\/strong>-poor amount of guidance is available, NO coaching is available.<\/li>\n
              5. The success rate of subject-<\/strong>It is one of the less successful subjects in IFS\/IFoS examination<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                CIVIL ENGINEERING<\/strong><\/h3>\n
                  \n
                1. Marks Fetching ability of subject<\/strong>\u2013 Good to very good.<\/li>\n
                2. Availability of books for subject<\/strong>-Readily available in the market, as its very well established subject and most of the national universities, teach it.<\/li>\n
                3. Length of syllabus<\/strong>-Syllabus is moderate to lengthy.<\/li>\n
                4. Availability of coaching\/ guidance for the subject<\/strong>-Good amount of guidance is available, some coaching is also available.<\/li>\n
                5. The success rate of subject-<\/strong>It is one of the most successful subjects in IFS\/IFoS examination, with a lot of Civil Engineers making it to the final list.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                  FORESTRY<\/strong><\/h3>\n

                  4. Availability of coaching\/ guidance for the subject<\/strong>-Good amount of guidance is available, some coaching is also available.<\/li>\n
                  5. The success rate of subject-<\/strong>It is one of the most successful subjects in IFS\/IFoS examination, with a lot of graduates making it to the final list.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                    The only con of this Optional, maybe, is that it is like pub-ad\/ geography of civil services, it may be butchered any day.<\/p>\n

                    GEOLOGY<\/strong><\/h3>\n

                    1. Marks Fetching ability of subject<\/strong>\u2013 Fair to good.<\/li>\n
                    2. Availability of books for subject<\/strong>-Poorly available in the market, its very well established subject but right books is difficult to procure.<\/li>\n
                    3. Length of syllabus<\/strong>-Syllabus is moderate to lengthy.<\/li>\n
                    4. Availability of coaching\/ guidance for the subject<\/strong>-Fair amount of guidance is available, almost no coaching is available.<\/li>\n
                    5. The success rate of subject-<\/strong>It is one of the fairly successful subjects in IFS\/IFoS examination, as a lot of people with Geography take it and hence large number most of the aspirants make it to final list.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                      The only con of this Optional is that along with forestry combo, you need some luck also to clear this Examination.<\/p>\n

                      MATHEMATICS<\/h3>\n
                        \n
                      1. Marks Fetching ability of subject<\/strong>\u2013 Good to Excellent.<\/li>\n
                      2. Availability of books for subject<\/strong>-Readily available in the market, as its very well established subject and almost all of the national universities, teach it.<\/li>\n
                      3. length of syllabus<\/strong>-Syllabus is moderate to lengthy.<\/li>\n
                      4. Availability of coaching\/ guidance for subject<\/strong>\u2013 Very Good amount of guidance is available, some coaching is also available.<\/li>\n
                      5. The success rate of subject-<\/strong>It is one of the most successful subjects in IFS\/IFoS examination, with a lot of Engineers making it to the final list.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                        MECHANICAL ENGINEERING<\/strong><\/h3>\n
