{"id":102673,"date":"2021-04-21T15:52:44","date_gmt":"2021-04-21T10:22:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=102673"},"modified":"2021-04-21T20:14:26","modified_gmt":"2021-04-21T14:44:26","slug":"world-press-freedom-index-2021-released","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/world-press-freedom-index-2021-released\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;World Press Freedom Index&#8221; 2021 Released"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>What is the News?\u00a0<\/strong>The World Press Freedom Index 2021 released.<\/p>\n<h5><strong>About World Press Freedom Index:<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Published by:<\/strong> Reporters Sans Frontieres (RSF) or Reporters Without Borders since 2002.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Purpose: <\/strong>The purpose of the Index is to rank 180 countries and regions according to the level of freedom available to journalists.\n<ul>\n<li>However, the index neither ranks public policies and nor is it an indicator of the quality of journalism in each country or region.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Parameters: <\/strong>The index ranks 180 countries based on the following parameters, such as a) pluralism, b) media independence c) environment and self-censorship d) legislative framework e) Transparency f) Infrastructure, and g) Abuses.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>Also Read- <a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/important-current-affairs-for-upsc-ias-prelims-2021\/important-reports-and-index\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Reports and Index in news<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<h5><strong>Key Findings Related to India:<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>India <\/strong>ranks 142nd <\/span>on the World Press Freedom Index 2021. The rank is the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">same as in 2020<\/span> after it had consistently slid down from 133 in 2016.<\/li>\n<li><strong>India continues to be counted among the countries <\/strong>classified \u201cbad\u201d for journalism. Similarly, India is termed as one of the most dangerous countries for journalists trying to do their jobs properly.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5><strong>Other key Findings:<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Topped by: <\/strong>Norway tops the index, followed by Finland and Denmark.<\/li>\n<li><strong>China: <\/strong>China ranks 177 in the index.
