It is due to the worst violations of religious freedom in India in 2020.<\/p>\n<h5><strong>Reasons for recommendations:<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>USCIRF has recommended<\/strong> India to be put on a Countries of Particular Concern(CPC) list because of:\n<ul>\n<li>Religiously Discriminatory Citizenship Amendment Act<\/li>\n<li>Seeming police complicity in the Delhi riots<\/li>\n<li>During the COVID-19 pandemic, disinformation and hateful rhetoric including from government officials targeted religious minorities.<\/li>\n<li>Efforts to prohibit interfaith marriage \u2013 such as those in Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh among other reasons.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Suggestions by USCIRF:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Firstly, the US administration should impose targeted sanctions on Indian individuals and entities for \u2018severe violations of religious freedom\u2019.<\/li>\n<li>Secondly, the US administration should promote interfaith dialogue and the rights of all communities at forums such as Quadrilateral [the Quad].<\/li>\n<li>Thirdly, the US Congress should raise issues in the U.S-India bilateral space by hosting hearings, writing letters, and constituting Congressional delegations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5><strong>Other Recommendations of USCIRF:<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Other new recommendations by USCIRF<\/strong> for the CPC list 2021 are Russia, Syria, and Vietnam.\n<ul>\n<li>Moreover, countries already on the CPCs list and recommended by USCIRF for re-designation are Burma, China, Eritrea, Iran, Nigeria, North Korea, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Special Watch List Countries: <\/strong>Comoros, Cuba, Nicaragua, and Russia.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5><strong>About Country of Particular Concern(CPC):<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>USCIRF<\/strong> recommends the Country<strong> of Particular Concern(CPC) <\/strong>designation to the US State Department. It recommends countries engaged in severe violations of religious freedom under IRFA (International Religious Freedom Act) 1998.\n<ul>\n<li><strong>The IRFA 1998<\/strong> promotes religious freedom as a foreign policy of the United States.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Why is the country given the CPC designation?<\/strong> The countries that receive this designation either <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">engage in or tolerate systematic, ongoing, glaring violations of religious freedom<\/span>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>In addition to its CPC recommendations,<\/strong> the USCIRF established a <strong>Special Watch List <\/strong>countries<strong>.
