{"id":104925,"date":"2021-05-04T14:13:22","date_gmt":"2021-05-04T08:43:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=104925"},"modified":"2021-05-05T19:15:35","modified_gmt":"2021-05-05T13:45:35","slug":"icmr-will-get-royalty-from-the-sale-of-bharat-biotechs-covaxin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/icmr-will-get-royalty-from-the-sale-of-bharat-biotechs-covaxin\/","title":{"rendered":"ICMR will get royalty from the sale of Bharat Biotech\u2019s Covaxin"},"content":{"rendered":"<h5><strong>What is the News?<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>Recently, the Indian Council of Medical Research(ICMR) has confirmed that it will receive royalty payments from the sale of Bharat Biotech\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/india-approves-two-covid-19-vaccines-for-emergency-use\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Covaxin<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h5><strong>Development of Covaxin:<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Firstly, Covaxin <\/strong>has been indigenously developed under the Public-Private Partnership by Hyderabad-based Bharat Biotech in collaboration with the ICMR.<a id=\"publicize-form-edit\" href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-admin\/post.php?post=104925&amp;action=edit#\">Edit<\/a><\/li>\n<li><strong>Secondly, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)<\/strong> is signed between the Bharat Biotech and ICMR. Under the MoU, Bharat Biotech will provide the following.\n<ul>\n<li>Pay the royalty payments to the ICMR from the net sales on Covaxin.<\/li>\n<li>Prioritise in-country supplies.<\/li>\n<li>Intellectual property governing the use of Covaxin will be shared<\/li>\n<li>The name of the ICMR-National Institute of Virology(NIV) will be printed on the vaccine boxes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5><strong>Note:<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/india-approves-two-covid-19-vaccines-for-emergency-use\/\">Covishield<\/a> constitutes over 90% of the country\u2019s vaccine supply so far. It has been developed from the partnership between Oxford University and AstraZeneca.<\/li>\n<li>On the other hand, Covaxin is almost entirely indigenous.
