In that, the DEPwD made the use of online mode as mandatory to grant certificates of disability using the UDID portal.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Note:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Firstly, the Central Government notified the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Rules, 2017 under <a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/right-to-person-with-disability-an-analysis\/\"><strong>Rights of Persons with Disabilities(RPwD) Act, 2016.<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<li>Secondly, under rule 18(5) The centre can issue directions to the state government\/authorities. This includes mandating the issue of a <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">certificate of disability<\/span> through online mode.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>About UDID Portal:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Unique ID for Persons with Disabilities(UDID) <\/strong>project is an initiative of the DEPwD. The project has been under implementation since 2016.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Aim<\/strong>: The aim is to build a holistic end-to-end integrated system for Issuance of Universal ID &amp; Disability Certificates for Persons with Disabilities. This ID will contain their identification and disability details.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Vision<\/strong>: The UDID project aims to <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">create a National Database for PwDs<\/span>. Further, it aims to i<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">ssue a Unique Disability Identity Card (UDID) to each person<\/span> with disabilities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Benefits of UDID Portal: <\/strong>The UDID card brings a host of benefits to Persons with Disabilities. Such as,<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Firstly,<\/strong> persons with disabilities will <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">not need to make\/maintain\/carry multiple copies of documents. <\/span>Further, the UDID card will capture all the necessary details. These details can be decoded with the help of a reader.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Secondly, the UDID card will be the single document <\/strong>of identification, verification of the disabled for availing various benefits in future.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Thirdly,<\/strong> the UDID Card will <strong>help in streamlining <\/strong>the tracking of the physical and financial progress of beneficiaries.
