This was followed by China, Mexico, the Philippines, Egypt, Pakistan, France and Bangladesh.<\/li>\n<li><strong>India\u2019s Remittances<\/strong>: India has received over USD83 billion in remittances in 2020. This was despite the pandemic that devastated the world economy.\n<ul>\n<li>In 2019, India had received USD83.3 billion in remittances.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>India\u2019s remittances fell<\/strong> by <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">just 0.2% in 2020<\/span>. This was due to a 17% fall in remittances from the United Arab Emirates. However, this was offset by the resilient flows from the United States and other host countries.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Remittances outflow from India<\/strong> in 2020 was USD7 billion. In 2019, it was around USD7.5 billion.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Other Key Findings:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>China <\/strong>received $59.5 billion in remittances in 2020 against $68.3 billion in 2019.<\/li>\n<li><strong>The remittance outflow was maximum <\/strong>from the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">United States. <\/span>This is followed by the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Switzerland, Germany and China.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Remittance inflows<\/strong> have increased in Latin America, South Asia, Middle East and North Africa.<\/li>\n<li><strong>However, remittances have fallen<\/strong> for East Asia and the Pacific, Europe, Central Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>About Migration and Development Brief Report:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Prepared by: <\/strong>The report is prepared by the Migration and Remittances Unit, Development Economics (DEC)- the premier research and data arm of the World Bank.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Aim: <\/strong>The report aims to provide an update on key developments. The disease concentration is often within a family and its extended circle.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Under this, <\/strong>cases detected in the past 14 days are predominantly limited to well-defined clusters. Further, the disease detected will not directly be linked to imported cases.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>What is Community Transmission(CT)?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span class=\"TextRun BCX0 SCXW40006209\" lang=\"EN-GB\" xml:lang=\"EN-GB\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun BCX0 SCXW40006209\">It means that the epidemic has become so widespread in a community. Further, it gets difficult (if not impossible) to determine who is passing on the infection to whom. <\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li>In simple terms, <strong>Community Transmission <\/strong>is classified when the source of the infection is not known.<\/li>\n<li><span class=\"TextRun BCX0 SCXW102848790\" lang=\"EN-GB\" xml:lang=\"EN-GB\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun BCX0 SCXW102848790\">CT will happen when new cases in the last 14 days cannot be traced to those who have an international travel history or<\/span><\/span>\u00a0to any specific cluster.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Stages of Community Transmission:<\/strong> WHO guidelines suggest four subcategories within the broader definition of CT:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>CT1<\/strong>: Low incidence of locally acquired cases detected in the past 14 days<\/li>\n<li><strong>CT2<\/strong>: Moderate incidence of locally acquired cases detected in the past 14 days<\/li>\n<li><strong>CT3<\/strong>: High incidence of locally acquired cases in the past 14 days<\/li>\n<li><strong>CT4<\/strong>: Very high incidence of locally acquired cases in the past 14 days.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Countries classified under Community Transmission:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Countries such as the United States, Brazil, United Kingdom, France have labelled themselves as being in \u2018community transmission\u2019.<\/li>\n<li>However, among the countries with the most number of confirmed cases, Italy and Russia do not label themselves as being in community transmission.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Government policy based on Categorisation:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>India\u2019s refusal <\/strong>to describe itself as being in community transmission had an effect on how authorities addressed a pandemic.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Under Cluster Transmission, <\/strong>the government gives priority to testing, contact tracing and isolating to prevent further infection.<\/li>\n<li><strong>On the other hand, <\/strong>under community transmission, the government prioritises treatment and observing advisories to stay protected.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Source: <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/news\/national\/coronavirus-india-resists-community-transmission-tag-despite-soaring-cases\/article34551103.ece\"><strong>The Hindu<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/mission-for-integrated-development-of-horticulturemidh-scheme\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">&#8220;Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture&#8221;(MIDH) Scheme<\/a><\/h3>\n<p><strong>What is the News?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare has provided an enhanced allocation of Rs. 2250 Crore for the year 2021-22 for \u2018Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture\u2019(MIDH).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture(MIDH):<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>The mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture(MIDH) <\/strong>is a Centrally Sponsored Scheme for the holistic growth of the horticulture sector.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Nodal Ministry: <\/strong>Ministry of Agriculture &amp; Farmers Welfare is implementing the MIDH scheme since 2014-15.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Part of: <\/strong>The scheme is being implemented as a part of the <a href=\"https:\/\/factly.forumias.com\/krishonnati-yojana\/\">Green Revolution &#8211; Krishonnati Yojana.<\/a><\/li>\n<li><strong>Coverage<\/strong>: The scheme covers fruits, vegetables, root and tuber crops. The scheme also covers mushrooms, spices, flowers, aromatic plants, coconut, cashew and cocoa.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Sub Schemes under MIDH: <\/strong>The mission has the following sub-schemes as its component:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>National Horticulture Mission (NHM)<\/li>\n<li>Horticulture Mission for North East &amp; Himalayan States (HMNEH)<\/li>\n<li>National Horticulture Board (NHB)<\/li>\n<li>Coconut Development Board (CDB)<\/li>\n<li>Central Institute for Horticulture (CIH), Nagaland.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Funding: <\/strong>Under the scheme,<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>The government of India(GOI) <\/strong>contributes 60% of the total outlay for developmental programmes in all the states except states in the North East and the Himalayas.<\/li>\n<li><strong>In the case of the <\/strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">North-Eastern States and the Himalayan States<\/span>, GOI contributes 90%.<\/li>\n<li><strong>In the case of <\/strong>the following the GOI contributes 100%.\n<ul>\n<li>National Horticulture Board(NHB),<\/li>\n<li>Coconut Development Board(CDB),<\/li>\n<li>Central Institute for Horticulture(CIH)<\/li>\n<li>The National Level Agencies(NLA)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Further, the scheme also provides<\/strong> for technical and administrative support to State Governments\/ State Horticulture Missions(SHMs). It also provides technical and administrative support for the Saffron Mission and other horticulture-related activities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Performance of the scheme: <\/strong>MIDH scheme has played a significant role in increasing the area under horticulture crops such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Area and production <\/strong>under horticulture crops during the years 2014 \u2013 15 to 2019 \u2013 20 has increased by 9% and 14% respectively.<\/li>\n<li><strong>During the year 2019-20, <\/strong>the country recorded its highest ever horticulture production of 320.77 million tonnes from an area of 25.66 million hectares.<\/li>\n<li><strong>However, the sector <\/strong>is still facing a lot of challenges. NECTAR is an autonomous body under the Department of Science &amp; Technology(DST).<\/p>\n<p><strong>About Moorhen Yoga Mat:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>The \u2018Moorhen Yoga mat\u2019 <\/strong>is named after Kam Sorai or Purple moorhen (a resident bird of <a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/community-fishing-banned-at-deepor-beel\/\"><strong>Deepor Beel<\/strong><\/a> Wildlife sanctuary).<\/li>\n<li><strong>The mat has been developed<\/strong> from Water Hyacinth. The mat is 100% biodegradable and 100% compostable mat.<\/li>\n<li><strong>The mat <\/strong>comes in a cotton canvas cloth bag. So that no zip or metal closures are used.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Benefits of the Mat: <\/strong>The Moorhen Yoga mat has the following benefits:\n<ul>\n<li>The Mat can improve the aquatic ecosystem of the wetland through the removal of water hyacinth<\/li>\n<li>It can provide sustainable production of utility products with community engagement<\/li>\n<li>The mat can generate livelihood for indigenous communities to become completely \u2018Atma Nirbhar\u2019.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>About Water Hyacinth:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Water hyacinth <\/strong>is a free-floating and flowering invasive aquatic plant that originated from Amazon Basin, South America.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Why is Water Hyacinth considered invasive?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It grows rapidly and can form thick layers over the water. So Water hyacinth is considered invasive throughout the world.<\/li>\n<li>These mats shade out the other aquatic plants. Eventually, these shaded plants die and decay.<\/li>\n<li>The decaying process depletes the amount of dissolved oxygen in the water. As oxygen levels decline, many fish are unable to survive.<\/li>\n<li>Hence, often the waters below water hyacinth masses witness the absence of life.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Other Effects of Water Hyacinth:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Water Hyacinth <\/strong>interferes with boat navigation and prevents fishing, swimming and other recreational activities.<\/li>\n<li><strong>The water hyacinth<\/strong> may also clog intake pipes used for drinking water, hydropower or irrigation.<\/li>\n<li>Moreover, it creates a prime habitat for mosquitoes that carry a variety of infectious diseases. So, water hyacinth is also considered a serious threat to biodiversity and human health.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Water Hyacinth in India:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>States like Assam and Kerala<\/strong> are highly affected by the Water Hyacinth.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Water Hyacinth is also referred to as the Bengal terror. <\/strong>This is because of its effect on the local ecology and lives of the people.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Source: <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/pib.gov.in\/PressReleseDetailm.aspx?PRID=1715872\"><strong>PIB<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/cabinet-approves-pli-scheme-national-programme-on-advanced-chemistry-cell-battery-storage\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cabinet approves PLI scheme &#8216;National Programme on Advanced Chemistry Cell Battery Storage&#8217;<\/a><\/h3>\n<p><strong>What is the News?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Cabinet approves the <a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/production-linked-incentive-or-pli-scheme-and-its-challenges-explained-pointwise\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Production Linked Incentive(PLI)<\/strong><\/a> Scheme &#8216;National Programme on Advanced Chemistry Cell (ACC) Battery Storage\u2019.<\/p>\n<p><strong>PLI Scheme For Advanced Chemistry Cell (ACC) Battery Storage\u2019:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Nodal Ministry: <\/strong>Ministry of Heavy Industries\u00a0&amp; Public Enterprises<\/li>\n<li><strong>Aim<\/strong>: The programme aims to set up facilities capable of manufacturing a cumulative <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">50GWh of Advanced Chemistry Cell (ACC) batteries<\/span>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Key Features of the Scheme:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Firstly, <\/strong>the government will select the ACC battery storage manufacturers through a transparent competitive bidding process.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Secondly<\/strong>, the selected ACC manufacturer will have to set up the ACC facility within a period of two years.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Thirdly, <\/strong>the incentive will then be disbursed to the manufacturer over a period of five years. The incentive amount will rise with the following,\n<ul>\n<li>Increased specific energy density and cycles,<\/li>\n<li>Increased local value addition.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Fourthly,<\/strong> the ACC firms will also have to achieve a domestic value addition of at least 25%. They should also incur the mandatory investment of Rs 225 crore \/GWh within 2 years.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Lastly, <\/strong> each selected ACC battery Storage manufacturer would have to commit to set up an ACC manufacturing facility of minimum 5GWh capacity. Further, they should also ensure a minimum 60% domestic value addition at the project level within five years.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Benefits of the Scheme:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Currently, <\/strong>all the demand for the ACCs is satisfied through imports in India. Hence, the programme on ACC will decrease import dependence.<\/li>\n<li><strong>The manufacturing of ACCs<\/strong> will also increase the demand for Electric Vehicles (EV).<\/li>\n<li>India can increase <strong>net savings <\/strong>of around Rs 2 lakh crore on account of oil import bill due to Electric Vehicles (EV) adoption.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Facilitate demand creation<\/strong> for battery storage in India.<\/li>\n<li><strong>The impetus in R&amp;D<\/strong> can achieve higher specific energy density and cycles in ACC.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Promote newer <\/strong>and niche cell technologies.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>What are Advanced Chemistry Cell(ACC) batteries?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>ACCs<\/strong> are the new generation of advanced storage technologies. They can store electric energy either as electrochemical or as chemical energy.
