{"id":10732,"date":"2019-10-06T16:35:44","date_gmt":"2019-10-06T11:05:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/factly.forumias.com\/?p=10732"},"modified":"2019-10-06T16:35:44","modified_gmt":"2019-10-06T11:05:44","slug":"section-144","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/section-144\/","title":{"rendered":"Section 144"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>News:<\/strong>Maharashtra Police has imposed section 144 in Aarey Colony banning unlawful assembly following strong protests by activists against the felling of trees in the green zone for a Metro car shed.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Facts:<\/strong><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Section 144:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) is imposed when there are apprehensions of breach of public peace and order by some people.<\/li><li>It bars the assembly of five or more people in an area where it has been imposed.The notification is issued by the District Magistrate of the area.<\/li><li>Under the section,all civilians are barred from carrying of weapons including lathis, in public places except for police or paramilitary or security forces.<\/li><li>It also empowers the authorities to block internet access.No order under this section can remain in force for more than two months.&nbsp;<\/li><li>However,if the state government considers it necessary for preventing danger to human life or for preventing a riot, it can extend the impositions under the sections for not more than six months from the date of issuance of the initial order.<\/li><li>It must be noted that Section 144 CrPC is not equivalent to a curfew.
